The 10th Annual Peter DeVries Invitational Tournament is to be held June 20-23, 2013, at John Fry Park and Goldstick Park in Edmonton. This tournament, hosted by the Edmonton Cardinals team 1 & 2 and run by the South Edmonton Elite Baseball Association (SEEBA) is open to players age 19-and-under and usually includes a mixture of Midget AAA, Babe Ruth, American Legion and Little League teams. All teams are guaranteed four games, with local teams playing their first game on the Thursday night and out-of-town teams starting on the Friday night. This is a wood bat tournament. All games will by played by the official rules of Baseball Canada, with the exception of allowing an optional courtesy runner (who is not in the line-up) for the catcher with two out.
We are ready to play with 8 teams in this year’s Peter DeVries Invitational Tournament:
- Edmonton Cardinals 1
- Edmonton Cardinals 2

- Lethbridge Giants
- Calgary PBF Redbirds

Please indicate the name of your team somewhere on your cheque so we know which team to apply it to.
Reply to me by email and please include the following information for the Head Coach and Off Field Manager for each team:
- First & Last Name
- Position (Head Coach, Off-field Manager, Assistant Coach… etc)
- Cell Phone Number (accessible during tournament)
- Email address
- Team Website (if one exists)
This information will be used by tournament staff to communicate with you before and during the tournament so it is important we have at least two contacts for each team. Feel free to include additional contacts (like assistant coaches) if you would like us to include them in email updates.
Other things to note…
There will be an Admission charge for spectators to our tournament.
- $3 for a single game ticket
- $10 for a single weekend pass (all games)
- $20 for a family weekend pass (all games)
Tournament players and coaches in uniform are admitted free of charge to all games.
SEEBA will provide hot food concessions at both John Fry and Goldstick ballparks beginning with Friday evening games and continuing throughout the tournament.
A Program will be printed for the tournament and is included as part of the spectator admission fee. I need a roster for your team sent to me as soon as you have jersey numbers confirmed so we can begin putting this together. I’ve attached the program from 2011 as an example of the team information required. The program is an important part of the tournament both as a tool for scouting and identification as well as adding to spectator enjoyment.
Also attached is a .pdf file list of Edmonton hotels who bid on providing accommodations for out-of-town teams last year. I’ve done this for the past few years and results have been similar so I didn’t run it again this year. Previously I requested the bids through www.hotelplanner.com which is a partner site to www.Travelocity.ca. Interesting website… you may want to try it if you are responsible for booking accommodations for your club. The Ramada, Cedar Park Inn and Sawridge Inn may be more conveniently located to John Fry Park but there are some really good offers from downtown hotels too (such as Chateau Lacombe) if you prefer to be downtown. Contact these hotel managers directly if you would like to arrange accommodations. In most cases they will block book rooms and you can extend the price to parents who may also travel while allowing them to book and pay separately. Most hotels do not hold you to any obligation for block booked rooms but read the details carefully to be sure.
I am attaching the draw to this email. The SEEBA website has a tournament page that will be updated with information as it becomes available. The website will also be updated with scores and other details throughout the tournament so you may want to bookmark it for quick reference. Click on the TOURNAMENT tab on the left side of the home page to get started. Details from previous tournaments are available at the bottom of the SEEBA home page.
I look forward to seeing you all on the diamond in June!
