The Cardinals open the 2010 National Midget Championship in London with a 4-1 loss to Team Quebec wasting an excellent pitching performance from Michael Williams. The offence just couldn't get on track against three Team Quebec pitchers.
Alberta did take a one run lead in the top of the 2nd inning on singles by Cory Scammell and Stuart Schroeder. After a fielder's choice bunt moved Scammell to 3rd base, he was balked home by the Quebec starting pitcher. Quebec answered back in the bottom of the 4th with a 2 out single and RBI double. In the bottom of the 6th inning, a Team Quebec batter led off with a 4 pitch walk and after a wild pick-off attempt scored a run off of a player standing on 3rd base with none out. Nick Smiley replaced Williams with a 2 - 2 count, and the Team Quebec batter hit the first pitch for an RBI double to put Team Quebec on top to stay. Mitch St. Laurent came in to get the last out of the sixth with Quebec now holding a 4-1 lead, which was the eventual final score.
Offensively the Cardinals could only manage four singles, two by Scammell and one each by Schroeder and Markus Fergusson. Next game Thursday night against host and 2009 National Champion London Badgers
