Dream Team Lives up to Hype!

Posted March 17, 2013

The Richmond Chuckers Dream Team lived up to their name as they took both ends of the pre-season doubleheader over the Vancouver Mounties.  Led by their stellar pitching the Chuckers kept the Mountie hitters in check all day holding the Mounties to a measly 2 runs over the two games.  The Mounties pitching was also pretty good holding the Chuckers to 4 hits in the two games but the opportunistic Chuckers took advantage of some untimely walks and a bit of a meltdown in the field which enabled them to put up 8 runs against the Mounties over the course of both games.

In the first game the Mounties played flawless error free ball but were unable to hold off the Chuckers who scored 2 runs in the 5th inning to come from behind and beat the Mounties by a 2 - 1 score.

In the 2nd game the Mounties looked like a different team and other than an early strike out were unable to make a defensive out in the field for the rest of the inning.  2 batters reached by base on balls and then the walls came tumbling down and the error fest started.  The Mounties committed 4 errors on the next 4 hit balls which led to 4 runs before the inning was called due to a 4 run mercy rule per inning.

The Mounties continued their stumbling ways in the 2nd inning and gave up another 2 runs in the 2nd inning to fall behind by a 6 - 0 score and it looked like the Chuckers were going to romp.  To the Mounties credit they managed to settle down and shut the Chuckers out the rest of the way.  The Mounties tried to mount a comeback in the 7th but were only able to cross the plate once while leaving 2 runners stranded.  Final Score Richmond 6 Mounties 1.

The Mounties now know that they will have to bring up their level of play to be able to compete with the Chuckers and will start working hard toward that goal at their next practice on Tuesday night.
