Triple Plays involving the Vancouver Mounties!
Posted March 25, 2012
It was 9 years ago in 2003 when the Vancouver Mounties were last involved in a triple play. That triple play turned out to be a very pivotal play in that game and so controversial that the opposing Tri City Manager was nearly ejected from the game.
It was in a Big League Tournament at Blue Mountain Park in Coquitlam and a couple of familiar faces were invovled in that one. Current Mounties coach Teddy Pawlick recorded the second out at first base and assisted on the 3rd out at 2nd base. Former B.C. Minor Bantam AAA Division Coordinator Kyle Williams who at that time was the manager of the Tri City Indians, was absolutely livid and argued to no avail that the popped up bunted ball with two Indians on base, was trapped by the diving pitcher instead of caught. In hindsight looking back Williams may have been right, which might have been the reason the umpire decided to let Williams go on with his antics instead of ejecting him. Mounties pitcher Doug Wong's only comment was that "it was very close play and the umpire was in a perfect postion to make the call." Williams has since put this Mountie memory behind him and he is currently the head coach of the Coquitlam Reds.
