Posted Oct 21/12 - Cash for Clothes Fundraiser

Updated Oct.22....The Chiefs organization is holding a fundraiser.The Developmental Disabilities Association of the Lower Mainland collects clothing and pays us $2 for the first 150 bags and $3 per bag over 151 for our efforts.We're asking each family to support the cause.This will help clean out your closet and all monies earned will go back into the Chiefs for new equipment at the park or batting facility.The plastic bags from DDA have been dropped off and distributed to the Sr.Chiefs Team given 5 per family and coach.Give them to your friends as well.More bags are available .Bring the bags back to the park during off season workouts and give them to Mike Addy.The players will be responsible for getting their bags back to the Whalley clubhouse for loading  no later than Saturday November 24 between 10am and 12 noon.Information on the program was forwarded to your home e- mail address.You will find out specifics on what is acceptable to donate.Wendy Bunnett has volenteered her time as the main Chiefs contact.Thanks for your efforts and support of Developmental Disabilities and Chiefs Baseball.

Posted Oct 12/12 - 7 Wk. Off Season Training Nov/Dec.
The Whalley Chiefs are offering an off season workout and training package for all boys interested between 13-18 years old.Hitting,throwing,pitching and core strength and conditioning will be covered.Instruction is from the Chiefs coaching and training staff.All workouts are at the new indoor facility at Whalley Ball Park or Chiefs club house.The cost is $199 for the  initial 7 week session starting Tuesday November 6 and running until Saturday December 22nd.Days are Tuesdays from 6:30pm to 9:30pm, Thursdays from 6:30pm to 9:30pm and Saturday mornings from 10:00am to 1:00pm.The coaches will instruct you on when and what time to be at the facility.The 3 hour sessions will be broken down into smaller workout groups.This is mandatory for all those planning on playing for the Chiefs in the PBL.There will be a 2 week layoff over Christmas and the we will get back at it again with more available days and times.This next session will be 8-10 weeks depending.A Chiefs work out T shirt, shorts and a toque will be part of the $ package.Majestic sweatshirts will be available also for sale.Click here for registration details...

It's been a roller coaster ride and season for Adam Loewen.Starting in Las Vegas and being called up to the Toronto Blue Jays for September.Shortly after the season ended ,the Jays released Loewen to free his opportunities.He signed with the Mets and will report to big league camp in Florida in March.

Selah Wa....The Chiefs enjoyed a great weekend of dry, hot baseball weather competing in the 2011 Bench Jockey Classic in Selah Wa just outside of Yakima.The Chiefs finished 3-1 with their only loss in the final 7-6 to East Valley Yakima.Hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves and thanks to everyone who made the journey over the mountains.

Surrey...The FV Chiefs will run a Fall Program at Whalley Athletic Park starting Wed.August 31st at 6PM.This is the time to register in person.Open to boys aged 13-17.The Program will be weather permitting and run through mid October with app.10-12 games planned with other PBL teams and also a Tournament in Yakima, Wash. September 23-4-5.Workouts will be each Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday from 6pm to 9pm starting September 6th.Games will mostly be on the weekends.The Chiefs will have a staff of 6 qualified coaches and training staff throughout the fall period.The cost will be $199 which includes a Chiefs hat, game/practice top, baseballs, shared hotel accommodation, utility costs at Whalley and top instruction.Off season program details are being worked on now but count on Sport Starz and Cloverdale facilities as being used by the Chiefs.Any questions can be directed to Bryon Kennedy or any of the Chief contacts.Refer Schedule and Calendar tabs for more details.

Surrey....Congratulations are in order for Chiefs Caleb Lefebvre LHP who signed to play with Mesa Community College Thunderbirds of the NJCAA D-1 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference this fall.Caleb finished the PBL season 6-4 with a 2.01 ERA with 70 K's over 69.2 innings worked and 8 complete games.Good luck in Arizona.

Dodgers make deal with St.Louis.....Faced with a surplus of infielders, the LA Dodgers traded Ryan Theriot from LA  to St.Louis for RHP and N.Vancouver native Blake Hawksworth.Back in 2002 in Seattle in an exhibition game, Blake faced the Chiefs Adam Loewen.The Chiefs won 2-1 and both pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts ( both over 4 innings of work )Loewen was drafted in the 1st round (4th overall) and Hawksworth signed at Cal State Fullerton.

N.Delta....Dennis Springenatic, the head coach of the Whalley/Fraser Valley Chiefs for the last 23 years has stepped aside to pursue other endevours.Dennis won the Baseball Canada's Coach of the Year in 2000 and coached two seasons with Canada's Junior National Team competing in Cuba in 2006.His enthusiasm and manners will be greatly missed.A new head coach might be announced as early as next week by Chiefs GM Paul Hargreaves.Spring instruction is business as usual.

Posted Jul 31/10 - Chiefs Season Ends at Nat Bailey

Congratulations to all the Seniors moving on from the Chiefs program...Adam Quan,Troy Lindsay,Brandon Bufton,Aaron Libolt,Jaymes Proutt and Chris Fischer.The 2 losses Saturday at the Nat from Victoria and N.Delta ends a very good season of baseball.The Chiefs played 84 games with a record of 50-33-1, just under a .600 win %.Getting to the finals in Kamloops in early April, then going to Las Vegas to the Bishop Gorman tournament where the Chiefs were competitive , then winning the Abbotsford Tournament in the cold and wet proved to the staff that this was a team in the true sense.The Chiefs went on a tear during the second half of the PBL and qualified in 4th spot for the playoffs.We had lots of fun and thanks to all the parents who helped around the park and with organization.Special thanks to my buddy Greg (Spot )Greaves for the countless hours grooming Whalley Ball Park.

Adam Quan was awarded the UBC scholarship starting this fall as announced by Terry McKaig Head Baseball Coach at UBC and confirmed by Ted Hotzak President of the PBL.This scholarship comes from a huge supporter of the PBL and UBC who prefers to remain anoynomous.The amount of the scholarship is between $4-$6,000 for each year at UBC over 4 years.Adam carried a 89% from 12th grade and got into UBC's prestigious Human Kinetics program.Congratulations to Adam.It's well deserved.

Fraser Valley entered the double elimination round in the Shockers Mickey Merriam tournament in 4th place overall.That was because of their 3-1 record in the Lincicum Pod with wins over Everett , Washington Wave and Toyota.They lost 1-0 to the Wave.The double elimination round started with a defaulted win over Everett and then a tough 15-14 loss to the Narrows from Bremerton and then the knock out punch from En Fuego.The Chiefs record of 4 and 3 was the best performance of the Canadian Teams entered.

The Chiefs announce details for Fall Ball 2014 at Whalley Ball Park and Indoor Training Facility.Open to boys aged 13 to 17 and who live in the Chiefs PBL boundaries or have been released by other PBL Teams.Opening night is Sept.2 at 6:00pm (register only)and will conclude in late October weather permitting.The Chiefs plan to enter 2- U16 Teams in a Tournament in Las Vegas Oct.31,Nov.1-2.Another Tournament is scheduled for Oct.10-12 in Kelowna.The format will be 3 nights a week, Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday practices , workouts and inter squad games starting at 6pm and going to app 9:30pm.Weekends will be for home and away games with PBL teams and Washington teams.Instruction will be from all 9 of the Chiefs qualified staff and Cole Armstong, Coach Chicago White Sox.Cost is $209.00 which will include a game top and hat and will pay for park time and umpires.The LV trip/tournament will be over and above these costs.Questions can be directed to GM Paul Hargreaves or any of the Chiefs staff.

Surrey...The Chiefs would like to announce details for the 2nd half of off season strength and conditioning and hitting and throwing instruction.Starting Mon Jan 6 and running 9 weeks to Sat March 8.All boys aged 13-18 are welcome and strongly encouraged if they are trying out for either of the Chiefs PBL teams.A typical week is as follows...Sundays will be an outside track day running at Holy Cross HS from 10 to 11am.Mondays will be a core training day with trainer Gord Kerr from 6 to 9pm at Whalley.You will be put into smaller workout groups.Tuesdays will be for hitting from 6 to 9pm at Whalley.Video and swing analysis will be taken.Wednesdays are off.Thursdays will be for hitting and long tossing from 6 to 9pm at the cage.Fridays are off.Saturdays will be for catchers,pitchers and hitters.Starting at 9am to 10am catchers will work with Ernie Hawkins and Ryan Pilgrim.Pitchers will start at 10 to 11:30am and hitters will finish from 11:30 to 1pm.Thats's 13 hours of cage instruction from the Chiefs staff.Cost will be $289 payable to Chiefs Baseball.As part of the registration fee, each player will get a Chiefs majestic hooded sweatshirt.Any questions can be directed to any of the Chiefs coaching staff.

Phoenix,Az....The Whalley Chiefs would like to announce that Cole Armstrong, Chiefs alumni '02 has joined the coaching staff effective January 2014.Cole brings many years of college and pro ball experience to the staff.Cole was drafted in '01 by the Mets (didn't sign)and '02 by the Braves.Cole played at Chipola JC in Marianna Fla before signed a pro contract.Played for the Braves, White Sox,Angels and Marlins organizations.He played for Canada's JNT and Canada's Pan Am Gold medal winning team.His pro line is found on the following link:http://www.baseballamerica.com/statistics/players/cards/83107

October 24....The Chiefs would like to announce the details for the 8 week strength and conditioning program.Starting Sat.Oct.26 and running 8 consecutive weeks through Sat.Dec.21.This program will be supplemented in the 2nd half starting in the new year.Boys aged from 13 to 18 are welcome to work out.We encourage boys aspiring to make the Chiefs PBL or JPBL teams to participate.All instruction will be from Chiefs staff.A typical week will be as follows..Sundays will be a workout outside day at the oval, being Holy Cross HS Track.The time will be from 9am to 10am.Be prepared to run with proper footwear.Mondays will be a core training and strength & conditioning day.This will be held at the Whalley cage from 6:00 to 9:00pm and at Gord Kerr's home gym when required.This will begin Nov.18.and will be in groups depending on numbers.You will be notified for your time to work out.Tuesdays will be in the Whalley cage from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and will concentrate on hitting.Video and swing analysis will be taken.Wednesdays are off days.Thursdays will be back in the Whalley facility again from 6:00pm to 9:00pm working on hitting.Fridays are off.Saturdays are in the Whalley cage from 9:30am to 1:00pm.Catcher's will be instructed by Ernie Hawkins and Ryan Pilgrim and pitchers will throw and work on mechanics from 9:30am to 10:30am.The balance of the time will be for long tossing and hitting.Cost is $229 payable to Chiefs Baseball.That will include a Chiefs work out T, mesh shorts and a toque, all available Nov.2.Any questions can be directed to any member of the Chiefs staff.Hope to see you out.

Updated Oct.22...The Whalley Chiefs are offering an off season workout and training package for all boys interested between 13-18 years old.Hitting,throwing,pitching and core strength and conditioning will be covered.Instruction is from the Chiefs coaching and training staff.All workouts are at the new indoor facility at Whalley Ball Park.The cost is $199 for the 7 week session starting Tuesday November 6 and running until Saturday December 22nd.Days are Tuesdays from 6:30pm to 9:30pm( 3 hrs), Thursdays from 6:30pm to 9:30pm (3 hrs) and Saturday mornings from 10:00am to 1:00pm(3 hrs).The coaches will instruct you on when and what time to be at the facility for those 3 days.Refer Player Only Tab on the site for details.Thursday's will be for core work strength and conditioning with trainer Gord Kerr.A Chiefs work out T shirt, shorts and a toque will be part of the package.Majestic sweatshirts will be available also for sale.Click here for registration details...

The Chiefs are entered into the 2012 Arizona Invitational in Phoenix Az. sponsored by Cleats Sports USA.The Tournament runs from March 12-17 during spring break and will be hosted at several different local H/S fields in the Phoenix area.The Chiefs will be entered in the 'Open' division which will allow them to customize their schedule.Games will be in the Avondale and Mesa area at Tolleson HS and Gene Autry Park.Tournament starts March 13 and runs through the Saturday March 17.Hopefully there is time during the week to take in some MLB spring training games, ASU baseball and Coyotes hockey.The revised tournament schedule is found in  Handouts.

Surrey...Announced today by GM Paul Hargreaves that Bryon Kennedy will take over the Premier Chiefs as head coach for the fall and upcoming spring season.Bryon coached the Cloverdale Midget AAA club this season.Bryon is from Penticton and played HS baseball in Penticton and then in the Intercounty Baseball League in Ontario for the Hamilton Cardinals.He played a few years in independent baseball and ended up back in the BC Interior.Was the Ass't Coach of the PBL's Penticton Thunder in 2004 before moving to the lower mainland.Worked at the Ball Park Training Centre in Richmond for 3 years as a hitting, fielding and catching instructor.Played in the PIL for the past 5 years as a mid infielder before committing to become an assistant coach in Cloverdale.He was recently selected as ass't coach of the Midget AAA BC Selects National Team.Bryon is also the owner of Kennedy Wood Bats.Welcome Bryon to the Chiefs organization.Read more in The Now Newspaper Sports Tuesday August 2.

Fraser Valley didn't seem to mind the cold ,wet weather Sunday.They advanced from their POD in 2nd place with a 3-1 record.That meant the Chiefs would play Abbotsford in the semi final who came out of their POD as the #1 seed.The Chiefs got to them early and often handing the host a 9-0 score.Edmonton Prospects beat Langley 3-2 in the other semi final, setting the stage for a Edmonton/Fraser Valley Championship Game.The Chiefs led 3-1  and gave up 2 runs in the 6th for a 3-3 tie.With runners at 2nd & 3rd with 1 out in the 7th, Mitch Dornblut wacked a bases clearing double off the left field wall to score 2 more and see the Chiefs win their 3rd Abbotsford Invitational Tourney in 8 years.

The trip was a success.Games against #1 rated Bishop Gorman and then against #2 ranked Newbury Park got the Chiefs into the mix real fast.Although dropping both games 11-7 and 4-3 , the Chiefs were playing very good baseball.A win vs Bishop Monogue from Reno and then a loss to Oaks Christian from California.The game was high lighted with a photo of the Chiefs with the Great One.His son played for Oaks Christian.(pictured above)The 5th and last game was a hitting display with the Chiefs beating Irvine Ca. 16-7.

Surrey...Justin Bye today was announceed as Chiefs Pitching Coach by GM Paul Hargreaves for the fall and upcoming spring season.Justin is from the big town of Tillsonburg , in SW Ontario.He played College baseball at Genesee Community College in Batavia ,New York for 2 years earning the Athletic Director's award and winning a Conference championship before transferring to NCAA D2 Barton College in Wilson, N.Carolina where he earned his BA in business and sports management.Justin has been head instructor of winter instructional camps in Ontario for the past 10 years, as well as running  pitching clinics over winter breaks at college.Justin worked this past season as pitching coach for the Cloverdale Midget AAA club and was also named to the BC selects Midget AAA National Team as pitching coach.You might also know him as the West coast rep for Cardinal Sports Management.Welcome Justin.
