Game Notes: On paper, this one looked like a Mis-Match in Pius’s favor, but you still have to play the games. Talk about flat. The Popes were a Carpenters dream in this one. With no legs left and no gas in the tank, Pius managed to stink this one up early. Port, a perennial doormat in the North Shore conference, came out fired up, and it showed. They simply wanted it more today. Pius was just at the end of the line of a very long week, 7-Games in 5-Days. Need I say more? Port jumped out early with 3-Runs in the 1st, and never looked back. Sophomore Justin Hunt got his first start of the season and gave up 6-Hits, and recorded 3-K’s in the losing effort. Dan Foy came on in relief in the 6th and ended the very long day with a 1-4-6-3 DP. Singles by Jeremy Penn and Steve Lenski were the only hits in the game for Pius, who couldn’t adjust to the off-speed stuff from the Port pitcher. On another day, there could be a very different outcome.
