| Game Notes: Pius returned to the win column with some late Inning heroics to defeat archrival Marquette High 6-5 at Rainbow Park. Marquette jumped out on top with 1-Run in the opening frame, but Pius came right back to tie it at 1-1 after 1-Inning. Marquette plated single tallies in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th, to take a 4-2 lead after 5-Innings. Marquette pitcher Pattengale kept the Pius hitters off stride all day but tired in the 6th. Things were looking like yesteryear as Marquette added another run in the top of the 6th to take a 5-2 lead. It would take a late inning rally to pull this one out. The baseball gods were looking down on us today. After a groundout to open the 6th, Steve Lenski got things going with a sharp single to left, and advanced to 3rd on a perfectly executed Hit & Run by Kevin Doerr (great call by the coach), Doerr stole 2nd to set the stage for the remainder of the inning. With runners on 2nd & 3rd Scott Schreck sent Lenski home with a SACF, Hunt reached on a BB (Dominic Salinas into run for Hunt), Doerr scored on a single by Zack Feerick, Salinas advancing to 3rd, Feerick stole 2nd, and advanced to 3rd on a WP, Salinas scoring on the play, and Feerick scored the decisive run on another WP to end the game. Lenski started for Pius and went 41/3-Innings, allowing 4-Runs on 7-Hits. Scott Perry came on in relief to preserve the game and get the win. Pius managed only 5-Hits, but it was enough. Lenski had 2-Hits and scored 1-Run, Doerr reached 3X’s and added a single, Joel Seagraves and Feerick rounded out the Pius attack with a single each. | ||||||||||
