Orioles Prepare to Take Flight for 2017 Season
Posted December 6, 2017
Coming off an up and down 2016-2017 season where we saw Lennox start 3-7, but finish the year with a 5-5 record to have an overall 8 and 12 record. The Orioles finished strong despite being in the toughest conference in the state. Amongst that, Lennox was in a tough region as well as the 2016-2017 State A Champ came from our region.
Lennox was considered a young team last season only having four seniors and eleven non-seniors. This year, the Orioles will retain the youth that they had last season. This year’s team returns eleven players from last years unit including two seniors.
This season’s schedule is as tough as it has even been. The Orioles will play thirteen games against DakXII opponents. This season, Lennox will play five teams that played in the state tournament last season including a Tea Area team who won state and playing a state runner-up Madison team, who Lennox plays twice this year. The other 3 teams include 3rd place finishing team Sioux Falls Christian, a 4th place finisher of Tri-Valley and a 5th place finisher of Dakota Valley. The one good part is of the six games vs these tough opponents, four of the games are in Lennox.
The 2017-2018 season could have a lot of ups and downs considering the high level of competition that this team must deal with. Lennox does have some returning letter winners including Juniors Brock Anderson and Quincy Ihnen and Seniors Holden Breck and Ethan Gilbert. This year’s team will rely heavily on these four players as well as sophomore Josh Arlt. These five players will have a majority of the workload but in a Paul McVey offense and defense, team effort is the path to an Oriole victory.
Friday will mark the kickoff of the 2017 season for the boy’s team as well as the girls team. The girls will tip off around 6:00 and the boy’s will tip off around 7:45.
