The Orioles JV loses in a Short Game with SFC

Lennox vs Sioux Falls Christian

Chancellor, SD    Monday, April 7th

It was a chilly night as the Orioles JV started at 9:30ish. Being a school night, state rules allow us to play until 10:00, so it was going to be a short and chilly game. The wind was heavy and that affected the pitching and hitting. The Orioles went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 1st. Then in the bottom of 1st SFC scored 5 runs of which 3 were earned and 2 had come off of errors. Down 5 to 0 the Orioles stepped up and never did score as they got one on base but could not get the runner to home. SFC scored 2 more in the bottom of the 2nd. With the score 7 to 0 in the bottom of the 2nd the time hit 10:00 so the game had to end. The Orioles struggled a little but they will bounce back.

The Pitcher was Braedon Wallenstein but the cold windy night was really hard to throw in.

Orioles JV Wins Close Game Thanks to Jongeling's Pitching Effort

Beresford Watchdogs JV vs Lennox Orioles JV

Lennox, SD    Wednesday, April 9th

One word is to be said about the game on Wednesday Night vs Beresford and that word is "Defense". The final score was 4 to 3 and the Orioles won but it didn't come easy. The Orioles had to do a lot of fighting on Offense to get on base and had to do extra fighting to score. Devon Jongeling had to pitch well since Beresford was doing so good. Jongleing did do a very nice job as he gave up 3 earned runs in a 5 inning game. He loaded the bases up and gave up 2 runs in the top of the 5th to make it 4 to 3. Then he got a slow ground ball back to Jongeling at the pitchers mound and Jongeling ran home and on a dive tagged the runner out to win the game. The Orioles had won 4 to 3.

The Orioles were led Offensively by Braedon Wallenstein and Preston Lauters. They both got on Twice and they both scored twice which made up all of our 4 runs. We were led Defensively by Devon Jongeling who gave up 4 walks and 1 hit in 5 innings of pitching.

The Orioles will face the West Central Trojans on Sunday, April 13th at 4:00 in Lennox. The Varsity will play first. The Orioles also play the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers on Monday night at 5:30 in Lennox. Come on out and support the Lennox jv as they look to earn a win and have a winning record.

The Orioles JV Offense Struggles; Overpowered By the Chargers

Sioux Falls Christian Chargers at Lennox Orioles

Lennox, SD    Monday, April 14th

The Orioles struggled pretty badly against the Sioux Falls Chrisitan Chargers on Monday night in Lennox. The starting game temperature was 36 degrees and it only got colder as the game went on. The Starting pitcher for the Orioles was Preston Lauters and he didn't do bad. He had a little accuracy trouble as he threw a few too many balls but after settling down he struck out 3 batters in the top of the first to get out of a bad situation. The score was 4 to 0 going into the bottom of the 1st. 3 walks in a row led to the bases being loaded. However, the next 3 guys for the Orioles struck out ended the inning. The next inning Lauters gave up 1 walk and got 3 strikeouts and the Chragers were held scoreless in the top of the 2nd. However the Orioles had no success either. In the top of the 3rd Tyler Johnson came in and did his best. In the next two innings the Chargers scored 5 to make the score 9 to 0 SFC. The defense for the Orioles sort of struggled by having 5 errors in the last 2 innings. Since the temperature had fallen to 33 degrees the JV game stopped after 4 innings. So the final score was 9 to 0.

The Orioles recieved a nice pitching performance from Johnson and Lauters. However, there were just a few too many mistakes on defense for the Orioles so they could not pull out a win.

The Orioles will play the Canton C-Hawks on Wednesday, April 16th in Canton. The Varsity starts at 5:30 with the JV to follow. Come out and support the Lennox Orioles High School Baseball Team.

Dell Rapids Out Hits the Orioles JV; Orioles have Pitching Problems

Dell Rapids/St. Marys/ Baltic vs Lennox Orioles

Lennox, SD    Wednesday, April 23rd

The Orioles started Levi Buckneberg as the pitcher. He managed to pitch 3 good innings. He really struggled in the 4th inning and that brought in Jake Heisinger. Heisinger was the last pitcher that the Orioles had to throw with. They were out of pitching due to the pitching rules. The Orioles only managed 2 runs as Wallenstein scored once and Stien scored once. Stien was the big burst of offense in the game as he scored once and had 2 hits. Wallenstein also had 1 hit and a fielders choice. With Wallenstein on third, VanNingen hit a ground ball to short that ended up an out; however, Wallenstein still scored to make it 12 to 2. The Orioles would put runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs in the bottom of the 5th. However they did score any of those runs. The Orioles were led Offensively by Brock Stien and Braedon Wallenstein.

Wallensteins Amazing Pitching Performance Helps Orioles JV Win

Lennox Orioles vs Tea Area Titans

Tea, SD    Friday, April 25th

To pitch a no hitter is so hard. A no hitter is when a pitcher throws the complete game and allows 0 hits. A perfect game is when the pitcher gives up 0 runs and has no walks. On Friday night Braedon Wallenstein pitched for the JV team and allowed 0 runs and 0 hits. He faced 16 batters and got 15 outs. However, he walked 1 batter and that is what made it not a perfect game but a no hitter. Even though it is not a perfect game, a no hitter is still amazing. The Orioles JV had trouble scoring though. Finally in the 4th inning Jacob Landon got on by an error. Buckneberg then walked and Tyler Johnson singled to left and got 2 RBI's. Then we jump to the top of the 5th. Grant Sweeter took a pitch off the neck to get to first. Delane Hood then walked and a passed ball got runners on 1st and 2nd. Brock Stien then got on by an error by the left fielder and that scored Sweeter. The score was now 3 to 0. Into the bottom of the 5th. Wallenstein struck out 3 batters in a row to end the game. The Final Score was 3 to 0, and Lennox had won.

The Orioles offense was led by Tyler Johnson who had a single with 2 RBI's. The Orioles defense was led by Braedon Wallenstein who threw 5 innings and gave up 0 runs and 0 hits.

Orioles JV ties for the First Time in LHS Baseball History

Tea Area Titans vs Lennox Orioles

Lennox, SD    Sunday, April 27th

Due to the 80% chance of rain the JV game was going to be a short, and quick 5 inning game. The Orioles started Preston Lauters as their pitcher. Lauters ran into a 3 up 3 down inning in the top of the 1st. The Orioles couldn't answer. Then Lauters ran into a little trouble as he gave up 2 runs in the top of the 2nd. However, Lauters arm started to hurt so Nick Kayl came into pitch. In the bottom of the 2nd, Stien hit a lead off single. That was followed by a passed ball and a ground out. Then Matt Wolf hit a RBI single between shortstop and third baseman to make it 2 to 1 Tea after 2 innings played. Then in the bottom of the 3rd the Orioles got another run back to make it 2 to 2. Nick Kayl as the pitcher, he gave up 0 runs and 1 hit in the 3 innings that he pitched. Then Jake Heisinger came into pitch. He walked the first guy. Then a single brought Dallas Gjertson in to make it 3 to 2 Tea. Since the threat of rain was supposed to be coming, the JV game was going to be only 5 innings and no more. Matt Bruns led off with a fly out. Grant Sweeter came up after Bruns and he hit a single up the middle. After that, Sweeter stole second base and put a guy on 2nd with 1 out. Lauters would earn a walk to put runners on first and second with 1 out. Then Braedon Wallenstein flew out to the 1st baseman. Now with 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 1st, Derrick VanNingen came up. On the first pitch, Sweeter stole 3rd base. On the 2nd pitch, Lauters stole 2nd base. Then Derrick VanNingen hit a hard ground ball to third that could not be fielded cleanly and that scored Sweeter. That brought up Nick Kayl. He was looking for a walk off single. However, he couldn't connect and he ended up striking out to end the game.

The JV game ended in a tie. This is the first tie in Lennox High School Baseball History. The Orioles got a solid offensive performance from Grant Sweeter, Matt Wolf and Brock Stien. Sweeter had a single and 2 stolen bases. Wolf had a RBI single. Stien also had a single and a walk. Defensively the Orioles got salty performances from Nick Kayl and Jake Heisinger. Kayl pitched 3 innings and struck out 6 guy and gave up 0 runs. He also made 2 flyout catches. Heisinger did give up a run in the 5th but he also struck out 3 guys.

Orioles JV Win to Ensure Winning Record; First Since 2009

Lennox Orioles at Canton C-Hawks

Canton, SD     May 3rd, 2014

With a 4-3-1 Record the Orioles were looking to beat the C-Hawks to ensure that the Orioles JV could get a Winning Record. This would be the first JV winning record since 2009 and the first winning record for the Orioles Varsity or JV since 2012. The Orioles started Tyler Johnson vs the C-Hawks. Johnson threw an amazing game as he gave up 2 earned runs in 4 innings of pitching. The Orioles scored 2 in the top of the 2nd thanks to Matt Wolf's single and Matt Bruns walk. Then 3 passed balls brought in Wolf and a RBI ground out from Brock Stien brought in Matt Bruns to make the score 2 to 0 Lennox. Canton answered with 3 singles and 2 walks to score 2 of their own in the bottom of the 3rd. The score was 2 to 2 after 3. Then the Orioles got DeWitt and Wolf on base with 0 outs. Stien singled that scored another run to make it 3 to 2. A passed ball got runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Then Braedon Wallenstein hit a single to right field that scored 2 runs. The score was now 5 to 2 Lennox. Wallenstein would steal 3rd and 2nd. Levi Bukneberg would then hit a RBI Sacrifice bunt to score Wallenstein and make the score 6 to 2 Lennox. Johnson came out and shut the C-Hawks down and the score was 6 to 2 going into the 5th. In the bottom of the 5th Heisinger came in for the save. He started to struggle as Canton scored 3 and had runners on 3rd and 1st. Anders Peters stole 2nd so runners were on 2nd and 3rd. Then a passed ball that got by the catcher Levi Buckneberg sent Jordan Sehr toward home. Buckneberg grabbed the ball and threw it Heisinger who tagged Sehr and the Umpire yelled "OUT." The Orioles JV had won and ensured themselves that they finished the season with a winning record.

The Orioles were definently thankful for the pitching performance of Tyler Johnson. Johnson pitched 4 innings and basically shut down the C-Hawks offense. Offensively, the Orioles recieved solid performances from Matt Wolf, Brock Stien and Braedon Wallenstein. Wolf had a single and a walk. He also scored twice in the game. Stien had 1 single and 2 RBI's. Wallenstein also had 2 RBI's but he had 2 singles in the game.

Lennox JV Wins Big over Canton JV Thanks to Big 2nd Inning

Lennox JV at Canton JV

Canton, SD

Scoring a lot of runs in a game has not been a common thing for the Lennox JV team. However, thanks to an amazing 2nd inning the Orioles JV team was able to earn their 2nd win of the Season. The Orioles started the game off very well as they scored 3 in the first inning thanks to a couple Canton erros. However, in the bottom of the first Canton answered 2 of the runs back to make it 3 to 2 after 1. But after the Orioles pulled across 10 runs on 5 hits and 1 Canton in the 2nd inning led to  a 13 to 2 lead after 2. The next 2 innings were scoreless for the Orioles however Canton could only scratch two runs across and the final score was 13-4 Lennox.
