JV Finishes Season; Lopez Gets First Baseball Pitching Win

Posted May 9, 2017

This time of year means that most of the varsity baseball teams are preparing for playoffs, however for those JV teams, it most likely means that the year is over. The season came to an end on Monday the 8th as Lennox finished the season with two straight wins as they beat Baltic 5-0.

The Orioles JV sent Senior and foreign exchange student from Ecuador Christian Lopez to the mound to start pitching in his first ever pitching appearance. Lopez struck out the first batter looking on three pitches. After allowing a walk, Lopez got a line drive to center which led to the runner being picked off for a double play. Lopez had successfully breezed through the first inning.

However, being the last game, the coaches wanted to get as many pitchers to pitch so Sophomore Holden Wagner would come into pitch. Wagner allowed zero runs and in the third Josh VanHouten allowed zero runs meaning Lennox shutout Baltic.

Offensively Lennox went to work right away. A walk to JD Kirchner and a single from VanHouten would put two on. After a couple of passed balls, Lennox would put two runs on the scoreboard. In the bottom of the second, the JV got an error, a walk, and singles from Brandon Fodness and Holden Wagner to score 3 runs and give Lennox a 5-0 lead.

Lennox would win 5-0 and finish the season 6 and 6. This win also gave Christian Lopez a win as the pitcher. This was his first time pitching so it was first sure his first win as a pitcher. For the third straight season, the Lennox JV finished with a 50% winning percentage or better. This continues to show the promise that the younger group of boys can bring to the table when they get older and the older players graduate.

The JV will participate in the LHS Baseball awards night which will be held sometime in the next three weeks. It all depends on how well the varsity does as to when the awards night will be. A JV Oriole Article will come out when we know the JV awards.
