Posted Dec 20/12 - Pflugerville Panthers break for holiday after registering 69-44 victory over Austin Bowie HS; Pville readies for Orlando invitational tourney after Christmas

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas - Jumping out to a 42-11 lead at intermission, the nationally-ranked Pflugerville Panthers moved to 20-0 with a 69-44 win over Austin Bowie High School in a home contest.

The game is the Panthers' final contest prior to the Christmas holiday. This week, Pflugerville has attained its highest regular season national rankings ever in the program's history. Head coach Nancy Walling's squad is ranked No. 15 in the first weekly espnW 25 Power Rankings - the first time the P'ville program has appeared in the espnW/HoopGurlz national regular season rankings. The Panthers also stand No. 20 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 national poll (released Dec. 19), while the Panthers make an appearance at No. 23 in the USA Today Super 25 national poll.

The Panthers had three double-figure scorers in the victory over Bowie, with senior guard Taylor Ross leading the way with 11 points, followed by senior forward Amy Staha and Diana Omozee who each finished with 10 points. Staha scored all 10 of her points in the first half as she helped the Panthers jump out to 24-3 lead after the first quarter.

Ross led all Panthers with five assists and four rebounds. Omozee, Staha and junior guard Stephanie Onyeje (seven points) had three steals each.

The Panthers will take time off for the Christmas holiday before traveling to Orlando Florida for the mega, 60-team KSA Holiday Tournament which is held at the world-class ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Pflugerville will play three games from Friday-Monday, Dec. 28-31. The Pflugerville traveling party, which includes all the varsity and junior varsity student-athletes and a full coaching staff, will depart from the Austin Bergstrom Airport on Wednesday, Dec. 27 and will return on January 1.
