PFLUGERVILLE, Texas - Behind a balanced scoring attack which saw 10 players score, including a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds from senior Itiana Taylor, No. 2 state-ranked Pflugerville posted a 70-34 victory over Akins in Texas State 5A tournament first round (Bi-District) playoffs Monday. Pflugerville, now 38-0, advances to Area round competition later this week against either Klein Collins or The Woodlands College Park who play tomorrow (Feb. 14) at Tomball HS. The Panthers were the District 16-5A champions with a 12-0 mark.
Akins, which finished fourth in the Austin District 15-5A, was forced into 29 turnovers as Pflugerville finished with 19 steals.
Joining Taylor in double-figure scoring were senior guards Jasmyn Booker (12 points) and Ari Booth (10 points). Junior guard Destini Oakmon and sophomore forward Kalea King each added nine points.
Pflugerville jumped out to a 22-2 lead after one quarter as the Eagles turned the ball over 10 times. The Panthers shot 7-for-16 from the floor in the first eight minutes. The Panthers increased its lead to 42-14 at intermission. |
