Posted Dec 12/11 - Panthers move to 19-0 with 66-33 win over San Antonio Wagner
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers used a combined 31-point effort from senior post Itiana Taylor and junior forward Diana Omozee (pictured) en route to a 66-33 victory over San Antonio Wagner Monday. The Panthers have moved up to No. 3 in the Class 5A state rankings conducted by TABC/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine and now stand 19-0. The Panthers also were ranked No. 2 last week in the Texas Girls Coaches Association 5A poll.

Taylor notched a strong all-around game, scoring a game-best 16 points to go with seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Omozee added 15 points and three rebounds. Rounding out the double-figure Panther scorers was junior guard Taylor Ross who chipped in with 13 points and five assists along with a game-high eight steals.

The Panthers led Wagner (8-9) by 19 at intermission (33-14).

This 19-game win streak is the longest since 2008-09 when head coach Nancy Walling's Panthers put together a 20-game win streak down the stretch of the season to reach the State Tournament semifinals. A loss to Brittany Griner-led Aldine Nimitz in the 2009 5A State semifinals stopped that impressive win streak.

Pflugerville returns to action on Friday when it travels to Austin's Westlake High School for a non-district 7 p.m. contest. Although District basketball competition began last week, the Panthers drew an open district date for Friday and will begin District 16-5A action on Monday, Dec. 19 when they host Round Rock in a 6 p.m. game at PHS. Pflugerville is 1-0 in District action, having defeated Stony Point 66-43 on December 6.

The JV, now 17-0, were paced by sophomore post T'iara Pitts who had 16 points and sophomore guard Kalea King with 13 points.

The freshman Gold (13-1) were once again led by guard Alyssa Washington who scored 22 points while Mariah Gardner added a season-high 18 points. In the freshman Blue team's win, Deja Coleman scored five points to lead the Panthers.
