| Pflugerville- Harker Heights jumped out to an early 10-point lead midway through the first period and never looked back en route to an upset 70-62 win over state-ranked Pflugerville. It was the season opener for both teams. Trailing all game long, the Panthers closed to within six, 64-58 on a layup by senior Adesuwa Ebomwonyi with 2:20 to go. That was the closest P'ville would get, as Harker Heights scored on its next possession 20 seconds later for a 66-58 lead. Ebomwonyi was the bright spot for Pflugerville, netting a team-high 17 points. She also had a game-high six steals and pulled down six rebounds. The Pflugerville junior varsity and freshmen teams posted impressive season-opening victories over Harker Heights. The Panther JV, led by great defense and the sophomore duo of forward Brenisha Payne (16 points) and guard Taylor Ross (11 points) won 68-14. The P'ville Gold freshmen took a 76-6 win. (The Panther freshman Blue team did not play, as Harker Heights had just one freshman team). Pflugerville returns to action on Friday, Nov. 12 against Killeen Shoemaker, with a 7 p.m. varsity tip time. |
