Posted Jan 25/13 - Nationally-ranked Panthers improve to 30-0 with 76-33 victory over District 16-5A opponent Round Rock

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas - Senior forward Diana Omozee logged a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds while senior point guard Taylor Ross added 16 points and a game-high five assists, as lead nationally-ranked Pflugerville posted a 76-33 win over District opponent Round Rock Friday night at the Panther Gym. In this week's national polls, the Panthers are ranked No. 12 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 rankings and No. 18 in the USA Today Super 25.

Leading 14-9 after one quarter, the Panthers blazed to a 23-6 run in the second period to take a 37-15 edge at halftime.

As a team, the Panthers shot 51 percent for the game, including going six-for-seven from 3-point range. The victory moves Pflugerville to 30-0 overall and to 9-0 in District 16-5A action.

Round Rock, which committed 22 turnovers and was held to 36 percent shooting from the field, is now 6-18 overall and 2-8 in district action.

Omozee and Ross were the only double-figure scorers as 10 of the 11 Panthers on the floor scored. Three players chipped in with seven points apiece - junior guard Alyssa Echols, senior post Jonelle Smith and senior guard Bre Payne. Senior guard Amy Staha (six points) pulled down nine rebounds and Ross added seven rebounds.

P'ville held a 41-19 edge on the boards and the Panther had 14 steals to the Dragons' five steals.

Pflugerville returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 29 when they travel to McNeill High School for District action. The varsity game is at 7 p.m. while the junior varsity and freshman Gold (A) teams play at 5:30 p.m.; at 7 p.m., the freshman Blue (B) team will square off against McNeil.

The Pflugerville junior varsity posted a 51-25 victory over Round Rock behind 13 points from freshman guard Mykiel Burleson and nine points from junior guard Kia Sloan.
