The Pflugerville girls varsity and junior varsity teams departed from Austin Bergstrom Airport on Thursday morning, Dec. 27 for a mega event - participation in the 2012 KSA Holiday Tournament in Orlando. Nearly 60 teams are participating this weekend. The site of the tourney games is the world renowned ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando. Head coach Nancy Walling's varsity squad stands 20-0 and is ranked as high nationally as No. 12 this week. The Panthers moved up three spots from No. 15 to No. 12 in the espnW 25 Power Rankings. In polls prior to the Christmas holiday, the Panthers were ranked No. 20 in MaxPreps XCellent 25 poll and No. 23 in the USA Today Super 25.

TEAM SCHEDULE IN ORLANDO

Both the Pflugerville varsity and JV squads will play three games at the tourney, sandwiched around trips to the Disney Theme parks, special tournament meals and activities and sightseeing. Again, all games are being played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

The Pflugerville varsity is in the Yellow bracket of the tournament and faces West Orange High from Winter Garden, Fla. in first round play Friday, Dec. 28. The Panthers and Warriors tip at 1:15 p.m. local (Eastern) time/12:15 p.m. Central. West Orange stands 3-6.

On Saturday, Dec. 29 at 8:15 a.m. Eastern (7:15 am Central),  the Pflugerville-West Orange winner squares off against the winner of Friday's South Park (Penn.) and Spruce Creek (Fla.) game. The losers of Friday's games play at 10 a.m. Eastern. The South Park Eagles (6-0) hail from South Park in central Pennsylvania and rank No. 4 in Pennsylvania Class AAA. The Eagles advanced to the state quarterfinals last year. Hailing from Port Orange, Fla., Spruce Park is 9-8 to date.

The final day of competition is Monday, Dec. 31 and those matchups and times are TBA.

The junior varsity KSA Holiday Tournament is a round-robin format. On December 28, Pflugerville meets Ridgedale HS (from Morral, Ohio) at 3 p.m. Eastern/2 p.m. Central. Saturday, the Panthers play at 8:15 a.m. Eastern against Monsignor Donovan (Toms River, NJ); on Monday, P'ville squares off against Tri Valley (from Hegins, Penn.) at 10 a.m. Eastern.
