Posted Nov 19/12 - Pflugerville cruises by former District opponent Georgetown 70-41 to improve to 8-0

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas - Blazing to  a 45-13 halftime lead behind a lockdown defense and quickness which forced 14 first half turnovers, No. 2 state-ranked Pflugerville easily stopped state-ranked Georgetown, 70-41 Monday night at the Panther Gym. The No. 2 5A state-ranked Panthers were led by a balanced scoring attack as 11 of the 12 who played scored. Junior forward Jaden Sturm led the way with 12 points and added six rebounds and four steals, while senior guard Taylor Ross had 11 points and senior forward Diana Omozee added 10 points and a game-best eight rebounds.

Pflugerville led by as many as 40 points (61-21) after the third quarter.

The game featured the former 5A District rivals and saw the Panthers force the Eagles into 26 turnovers while P'ville had 19 steals. This year, Georgetown is now playing at the 4A level and is ranked No. 2 in the TABC/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine weekly poll. Pflugerville moves to 8-0 with the victory while Georgetown falls to 1-2.

The Panthers jumped out to an 18-4 lead after one quarter as they forced the Eagles into seven turnovers and held them to one field goal in the period.

P'ville extended its lead to 30 (41-11) when Ross hit a 3-pointer with 1:22 left in the second quarter. In the first half, the Panthers shot 52% (16-31) and held Georgetown to just 10 field goal attempts. The Eagles were 4-10 from the floor.

The victory followed Pflugerville's Greater Austin Tournament championship this past weekend, as the Panthers have won three of the four titles at the tourney.

The Panthers will play again Tuesday evening, Nov. 20, against Southlake Carroll. That game will be played at 7:30 p.m. at a neutral site - Waco Midway High School. Southlake Carroll was ranked in the TABC Tex Preps top 10 in the preseason.
The game will be the Panthers' seventh game in a span of five days.

Pflugerville JV defeats Georgetown, 44-24

Meeting for the second time in three days, the Pflugerville JV defeated Georgetown's JV, 44-24 Monday evening. The two teams met Saturday (Nov. 17) in the Greater Austin Tournament title game which was won by P'ville, 46-32 at McNeill HS.
The Panthers, now 8-0, were paced by 12 points from freshman guard Mikiel Burleson and 11 points from sophomore guard Alyssa Washington.

The Pflugerville freshmen Gold and Blue teams lost to their Georgetown counterparts, with the Gold squad upended 59-44 and the Blue team losing 40-5. For the P'ville Gold team, Deliah Mooney had 14 points and Denitra German had 11 points to lead the Panthers.
