Posted Jan 3/12 - No. 2 ranked Pflugerville moves to 3-0 in District 16-5A play with 68-26 win over Westwood behind four in double-figure scoring
ROUND ROCK, Texas-- Pflugerville, which moved up to No. 2 in this week's Texas Association of Basketball Coaches/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine state 5A poll, remained undefeated with a 68-26 victory over Westwood High Tuesday night in a District 16-5A game played at Westwood. Paced by 14 points from junior guard Taylor Ross and a 10-point, 11-rebound and seven-steal effort from senior forward Itiana Taylor, the Panthers improve to 27-0 overall and 3-0 in district action. In the last TABC/Tex Preps 5A poll, the Panthers were No. 3. They are one of two undefeated teams in Texas 5A currently along with No. 8 ranked Harker Heights (22-0).

Pflugerville broke open a tight game early in the second quarter with a 39-3 run which spanned the second and third quarters. Up by three (14-11) with 6:58 to go in the second quarter, the Panthers held the Warriors scoreless for the rest of the period and closed out the quarter with an 18-0 run. That 18-0 run was sparked by Ross who had eight points and Taylor who added two points, three rebounds and three steals in the seven-minute run.

Westwood, now 8-17 overall and 0-4 in District 16-5A play, was forced in 29 turnovers by the Panther defense.

Joining Ross and Taylor in double-digit scoring were senior guard Ari Booth and junior guard Brenisha Payne who both had 12 points. Ross also had five assists and five steals.

The Panthers return to action on Friday, Jan. 6 when they host McNeil High School in a 7:30 p.m. game at P'ville. The game is Pflugerville Teacher Appreciation Night/Alumni Night at the Panther Gym.

Pflugerville JV and Freshman Gold pick up wins over Westwood

In action since the first time since Dec. 19, the Pflugerville junior varsity team defeated Westwood 72-23 and the Panther freshman Gold (A) squad recorded a 48-32 win over the Warrior "A" freshman team.

The Panther JV is now 20-0 and was led by sophomore post Makyndra Simmons who had 15 points and sophomore guard Stephanie Onyeje with 14 points and a game-high 10 steals.

The freshman Gold squad, now 16-1, was again led by guard Alyssa Washington who poured in 32 points.

The Pflugerville freshman Blue (B) team lost to Westwood, 36-19. Itai Olaudah had six points for the Panthers.
