FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 6, 2011

On Sunday, June 5, 2011 in Tacoma, WA , the WBCBL-NW Magic teams hosted 3 impressive Women’s Semi Pro Basketball Games. Opening Day included: The Lakewood Panthers vs Olympia Matrix; Seattle Express vs. Northwest Elite; and Tacoma Stars vs Lakewood Panthers.

The Lakewood Panthers handled the Olympia Matrix as they battled closely the first half. Leading scorers, Ernesia Widerman (18) and Magan Evans (17) put the panthers on their backs scoring almost half of the Panthers points.

Darnellia Russel ("Heart of the Game") continues to remind us that Basketball is an art…Darnellia scores 31 points in the season opener against Northwest Elite out of Portland, Oregon. Northwest Elite had no answer for Darnellia as she makes 5 3-pointers in the second half, along with 5 steals. Scoring at will, Darnellia also managed 5 boards and 5 assist, and only one turnover. Malia O’niel, also impresses the fans with 24 points. Ophelia Whitfield comes off the bench scoring 13.

Shirley "Swizz" Spears, led her Tacoma Stars to a remarkable win against the Lakewood Panthers. With a halftime score of 17-26 (led by the Stars), Swizz went on a 15 point second half scoring rampage bringing the final score to 60-88 (Stars). "The most impressive thing about Swizz is that she is not even a started", she is that "spark off the bench that is the making of a championship team". A 6th man/woman like Swizz speaks volumes about your team as a whole. Vanessa Caskey scores a silent 22 and Hilary Wicks and Shaundra Johnson were also in double figures with 12 and 10 respectively.

Current Stars and Express team rosters, the game calendar, and additional information are posted on the team's website: http://nwmagicpro.blogspot.com.
