Posted Jun 13/11 - "Hello darkness, my old friend..."

Is the way I feel everytime I have to say goodbye to a great group of young people.  It's always followed by the "sounds of silence"...but just until the next group of kids steps up and away we go again...8^)

Posted Jun 10/11 - Tom Hanks never played in a game like last night's...

On a night that began with Jeff, the 9th arriving man on our roster, crowhopping towards the diamond while donning his cleats at 6:59:59 for a 7:00 PM start, it was a night where you found yourself holding your breath a lot.

Posted Jun 7/11 - One down...

The Voodi cast spells on the visiting Phillies from Aldergrove, woven by Espy with 5 shoutout innings followed by JT with two more to close it out.  We wasted two baserunners in the first two innings by getting picked off 2nd twice with none out so had a slow start, finally making things right in the bottom of the third by scoring two to take a lead that was never in trouble.  We greeted their new pitcher with a 4 spot in the bottom of the 4th.  One more run in the bottom of the 6th and 3 outs later the 7-0 shoutout was complete and playoff game #1 is in the books with a Voodoo win.  Knock on wood but thats 18 innings and counting for JT w/o giving up an earned run!  We had  but 6 hits to their 3, both squads committing two errors and your patience at the plate was rewarded by 7 BBs on the night which we made count.

Posted Jun 5/11 - That's a wrap!

In a season ending tourney that had us playing in a pool that, including our squad, were the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th place teams of the league's 18 teams, we went 3-1, winning our pool and the semi-final that followed against Coquitlam but then having to cede the final on Monday night to Burnaby as we couldn't field 9 players due to varying circumstances.

Posted Jun 1/11 - Nail biters that get away...

A pretty surgical 11-1 win with JT throwing a strong 4 IP with 55 pitches and leaving with a 2-1 lead.  IG struck out the side swinging in the 5th as he came in to close out what was a too close game.  My best laid plans to get Nick and JK on the mound were undone when you guys decide to put up 9 in the bottom of the 5th in a late attempt to watch the Canucks game and too late to get my pitchers in.  One league game to go as you gentlemen move to 16-3 on the year.  Jason went 3 for 3 with Rory knocking him in twice then the roster scored in the 5th to end it.

Cloverdale Mustangs came to town on a beautiful Sunday to finally get our two games in.  They were our first opponent and it took all season to get that initial rainout played.

Posted May 22/11 - Going for Gold!

Very business like win, gentlemen.  Espy twirled a beauty coming one batter shy of the complete game, aided by the 6 inning mercy win.  Robert cooly closed out the top of the 6th which turned out to be all we needed as the offense won it in the bottom of the 6th by an 11-1 count over the North Delta Cubs as we outhit them 12-2.

Posted May 12/11 - Wow, I just woke up from this awful dream...

I dreamt that we had 8 hits vs the Reds while they had 8 hits against us.  That we had 2 errors (very generous scoring) and they had none.  Then I dreamt that they scored 13 runs while we scored 3 in a 5 inning game.  I dreamt that about 4 of their infield pop ups fell unmolested in the infield sand area and that balls were thrown past fielders at every base we threw to.  I dreamt that they stole 14 bases to our 4.   I also dreamt that we couldn't hit the Bantam AA version of Jamie Moyer - slow, slower and slowest while needing only 74 pitches to earn the 5 inning mercy win.

Posted May 10/11 - White Rock Sweep...

Man it's tough to leave South Surrey Athletic Park with a win.  Despite a wide assortment of new and different adverse calls, the Voodi would not be denied.  Good job on the bump by Jeff, Sam and Isaac - some heads up defense and timely hitting with a couple big bops by Nick and JK and a real head's up bunt by JT brought us the 10-5 win tonight to close out this season's White Rock road games.  Well done fellas.

When Jackson K. watched Nick S. one hop the ball to the fence in the top of the 7th I guess he felt the need to one up Nick as he got all that first pitch fastball to give us some breathing room against a game Ladner squad.  Deep over the left field fence!

Posted Apr 24/11 - Moving up...

Vancouver Voodi, road warriors extraordinaire, jumped out to 9-1 lead after 4 1/2 only to have an incredibly shrinking strike zone let the Red Sox bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the 7th.  A past ball 3rd strike (helluva bender!) that should have ended the game gave the Red Sox a glimmer of hope but Jason extinguished that with another K, this time looking.  A very effective outing by Rory in relief of TA had the Voodi in great shape come the 5th inning with the 9-1 lead.  Isaac in relief of Rory was squeezed like Forida orange juice and should have finished the game but gave way to Jason for the close out.

The visiting Voodoo kept their sticks hot, outhitting a very game Chilliwack squad 13-4 to earn a 10-1, 7 inning win.  Chilliwack started the game with some outstanding fielding plays to keep the Voodi from counting runs early on.

Posted Apr 7/11 - Nice first game fellas...

Voodi:  8 runs on 4 hits stemmed from an additional 8 BBs, two errors and 2 HBP so a lot of base runners on board tonight.  Yes, we could have gotten out of there quicker if we had cashed in some more runs early but I hope no one is getting concerned about their swing or game result.  It takes some cage work with heat to get your groove on and we are just underway, so don't get down on yourselves if it didn't go your way tonight.
