Mission Statement
The mission is to provide an opportunity to play basketball for women ages 19 and older, to continue their athletic careers while serving as positive role models for today’s youth through healthy competition and community service. The competition level ranges from former college players to former WNBA players and current International players. Shreveport Suns strive to educate and empower today’s youth with confidence, commitment and integrity, so they can live a productive and successful life. Our goal is to teach youth through athletes, respect for themselves, their peers, and their community by instilling a code of ethics built on honesty, respect, responsibility and team work. Shreveport Suns aspires to be an outstanding education-athletic organization that provides a high-quality basketball experience to all athletes.
About the Shreveport Suns
The Shreveport Suns is an independently owned semi-professional basketball team that is a member of the WBCBL. The mission of the Shreveport Suns is to provide an opportunity for young women to continue their athletic careers while serving as positive role models for today’s youth through healthy competition and community service. The Shreveport Suns are owned by Shayla Canady and Krystal Jackson. Both women work directly with youth ages 11-18 and are very sincere about being positive role models within the community. Krystal and Shayla have both played and coached the game of basketball of various levels and believe that they can help steer some of the members of this generation in a more positive direction, especially young ladies. The Shreveport Suns are in their first year of development and hope that they can receive a great amount of support from the city of Shreveport and surrounding areas.
