CUBS WIN - Semi Final Bound!
Posted July 20, 2023
The Neepawa Cubs have punched their ticket to the semi finals. They defeated the Portage Padres 12-7 in game 3 last night to win the best of 3 series 2-1. In Portage, Neepawa was strong on the bats all night with 4 players having 3+ hit night. Garret Rempel homered and was 3-5, Nate Stephenson and Dillon Birch had 3 hits each, and Brad Wilson had 4 singles. but the Padres never quit, down 7-1 playing the 6th Portage clawed back with 5 runs to make it 7-6. The Neepawa offense responded with 5 of their own in the top of 7 to lead 12-6. Portage would load the bases in the 7th and chase one run across for a final score of 12-7. Pitcher of the Year Garrett Rempel earned the win, though it may not have been a typical outing where he mows everyone down in a low scoring game, he was good enough to earn the W. Portage started Joey Moffatt, then turned to Jayson Brooks on the mound.
No rest for the wicked they say, mostly old people I think, so I guess I am old. Neepawa gets right back at it and plays Friday night in Plumas for game 1 of their best of 3 semifinal. #2 Plumas has been idle since last Tuesday. The other semifinal also goes Friday night in Carberry, where the first place Royals host the 6th place Mavericks. Carberry has been idle for 2 weeks, meanwhile the Mavericks eliminated the Austin A’s one week ago.
I guess this means we will have a new league champion this year. Portage were the league champions last season. Who will come out on top? Nobody knows. Could Plumas get that title they have been so close to the last 10 years? Losing the finals quite a few times in the last while will have them motivated for sure. Carberry looking to earn their 2nd title in the last 3 seasons doesn’t seem to hard to imagine with they way they have been playing lately. How about those Cubs? Neepawa will be liking their odds after knocking off Portage. Neepawa won the league back in 2017 and hopes to get back to the top. What about Minnedosa? Last time they won was in 2015, Can they use their experience from years passed and show the youth some playoff magic? Only time will tell. Good luck everyone!
