Huge Character Weekend for the SW Jets!
Posted December 12, 2022
The SW Jets faced two of the teams in the hunt for first place this past weekend. The Jets first made the trip to Steinbach for a rematch against the Blizzard who blanked the Jets the previous weekend. The Blizzard came out strong and took the early lead. The Jets, down two key players, showed that they were not about to be blanked again and put one on the board in the second to make it a close game. The Jets, playing very disciplined hockey, ended up working hard on both ends of the ice and eventually came out with a 5-3 victory.
The Jets didn’t have much time to recover as they hosted the Pembina Valley Flyers Sunday afternoon in Grunthal. This was the second meeting of the season with the Flyers winning the first one 4-0. Both teams came out strong and the Flyers struck first. The Jets quickly answered and from there the teams went back and forth on the score board to 3-3. In a physical game the Flyers found themselves in the penalty box and while the Jets couldn’t find the back of the net on their power play, they did control the play. With four minutes remaining in the third period the Jets did manage to bury the puck in their opponent’s net to make it 4-3 and then an empty net goal made it a 5-3 final in favour of the Jets.
This weekend was definitely a strong character weekend for the team as they showed that when faced with adversity they can come back and win.
The Jets are back to work this week in preparation for their final game before the Christmas break when they make the trek up to Dauphin to face the Kings for the second time this season.
