Countdown to Tournament of Champions in
(Aug 16/07)

People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring. ~Rogers Hornsby

Reds Wrap Up Year In Kamloops,BC(Aug 17-19)
After a couple of weeks of relaxation the team met up in Kamloops,BC for "The Tournament Of Champions" to end the season down in scenic MacArthur Island Park .The Reds put on a great show going 4-0 in the round robin and coming up just a bit short in a nail biting back and fourth final to a team from Coquitlam,BC.It was a weekend where everyone played loose, played as a team and everyone made great plays on the mound,in the infield,in the outfield and at the plate. It was a terrific display of the character, confidence and skills that the team has developed over a great year of baseball!

Baseball Alberta Championship-Strathmore Style(August 3-5)
Even though the results on the field weren’t quite what the Reds had hoped for the tournament was a success as a great time was had by the crowds that attended this weekend's Bantam AAA Tier 2 Baseball Alberta Provincial Championship in Strathmore.
The many spectators were treated to all the charms of baseball in small town Alberta. It all started with a terrific Opening Ceremonies that featured all the teams lined up around the infield in their colors.A welcoming by Strathmore’s mayor Keith Schneider and an opening pitch tossed by mother of two former MLB all-stars-Sharon Zimmerman. Add to that dynamite hospitality, great prizes that were raffled off, fabulous food, professional game like announcing by Jeremy Freeborn and John Bechtold as well a parade to watch and of course great baseball action on the field all played under sunny blue Alberta skies.

A fantastic effort by the Red’s players, parents and friends who volunteered their time especially the ones with exceptional organizational skills that led the way to creating a 1st class Baseball Alberta championship tournament. Definitely a great weekend of baseball in Strathmore!

Reds at the Provincials(August 3-5)
Unfortunately for the Reds a couple of losses to Sherwood Park and Edmonton and it was over pretty quickly as to the aspirations of winning “The Prize” at this weekends Teir 2 Baseball Alberta Provincial Championship Tournament in Strathmore.

As Coach Daren said “These two games were not indicative of what kind of ball these guys can play.”

A lot of long faces came out of the dugout after the Cardinals game and onlookers were not sure if the boys would have their hearts in it for a later game against the Calgary Cubs. But after a bite to eat and a little reflection time it didn’t take long for the boys to set it aside, loosen up and do what they do best which was to get out there and just play ball.

Play ball is exactly what they did that third game as the arms, bats and hustle were back in their game as they took it to Calgary 14-1.They played their game had fun and that was a great game to end their Baseball Alberta season on.

Reds Wrap Up Regular Season(July 28-29)
The Reds wrapped up their final weekend of regular season play. The boys had a couple of rough games against Red Deer and St. Albert. But the hilight game of the weekend came against the Camrose Cubs a team that had beaten the Reds all three previous games this season.Trailing by two going into the 5th the Reds scored three to take the lead.A fantastic pitching performance on his 14th birthday as he struck out nine (a season high for the team) earned Matt the win.Eric and his curve then came on in relief for the final two innings and continued where Mattie left off striking out three stranding three base runners and completing the save as the Reds win 6-4

Reds Take a Split Up in Spruce Grove(July 21)
A rough start to the day as nothing seemed to go right in an early game against the Spruce Grove White Sox as the Sox beat the Reds 11-1.After a frustrating game it would be interesting to see how the team would respond in the later contest against Sherwood Park...and respond they did! Not making it easy on themselves they fell behind early to Sherwood Park 4-0 but then they turned on the bats, arms and defense and won the game 5-4

Reds Beat Cubs 8-3(July 19)
On a rare midweek evening game the Reds found themselves down early against the Calgary Cubs as they trailed 3-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd inning.Different story that inning as the Red's bats came alive scoring 7 runs on their way to a 8-3 win.Colin Seddon back in action received the game ball

Reds Win Tournament Down in Medicine Hat(July 14-15)
The Reds had a great tournament down in the Hat winning 4 of 4 games to capture the championship.Against the Lethbridge All-Stars the Reds won two games by scores of 14-2 and 17-7.The Saturday game against the Medicine Hat All-Stars the Reds won 10-3.Sunday's game against Medicine Hat was a much closer contest as the Reds needed to come from behind and they did scoring three runs in the bottom of the 7th culminating with a walk off RBI single by Ben to clinch the 8-7 win.

July 11:Meet Jeff Zimmerman Night
Jeff Zimmerman a local Alberta boy who went on to become a MLB all-star met up with the Reds at practice.

Reds With Two Huge Wins on Lucky 07/07/07
In what was a must win weekend the Reds came out and took down two birds with one stone as they downed the Edmonton Cardinals 7-2 then later on defeated the powerhouse St.Albert Cardinals 6-4 at Kinsmen Park.Great pitching, clutch hitting and stellar defense was the name of the game this day.

Coach John described the St.Albert game as "A game we would have lost earlier in the season. Now this team is finding ways to win"

No better time than now in finding that winning touch as this huge win over St.Albert keeps alive the Reds hopes of going to the National Qualifiers in Red Deer next weekend!

Reds Chillin'in the Heat Down in Okotoks(July 1st)
A number of Reds players, coaches and families took advantage of the off weekend and BBQ'd and tailgated the afternoon away then took in a Dawgs baseball game down in Okotoks.Coach Marley organized and hosted a great Canada Day!

Strathmore Hosts a Great Weekend of Baseball(June 23-24)
The Reds proved one thing that they can compete with any team in this league a play here or a play there and the Reds could very well have been 3 wins and 1 loss this weekend. As Coach Daren said this was probably our most competitive weekend of ball so far this season.Even though the results weren't there as the Reds won only one of the four games this weekend. Two of the losses were 1 run ball games an 11-10 loss in 11 innings to Sherwood Park and a 5-4 loss to a very tough team in Camrose both games could have gone either way.The Reds also picked up a solid win over Sherwood Park.A commendable job by all volunteers as Strathmore hosted a great weekend of ball while battling the challenges of gophers, hail, lightning storms and possible tornadoes.

A Wet Weekend in Spruce Grove(June 16-17)
On Saturday even though the score may look a little one sided for the St.Albert Cardinals in a 8-0 loss it was actually a tight pitcher's duel until the bottom of the 6th when the Red's wheels fell off.In the second game of the doubleheader against St.Albert things started out badly right away and it appeared the rain gods had no interest in this one as the game was called after 2 1/2

On Sunday the Reds in game 1 played tough coming up with a 7-6 victory over the Spruce Grove White Sox.A great play at the plate on a bullet throw to home by Adam to Dillon tagging out the runner cinched the win.The Reds lost game 2 but still keep themselves in contention for the final spot for National Qualifiers going into this weekend.

June 9th & 10th -The "Doc" Plotsky Tournament in Sherwood Park
A very wet weekend and not alot of success in terms of victories but the team got in some good bonding time and did produce a few hilites this weekend including a close game against a team from Maple Ridge,BC and a rare baseball tie against the Edmonton Cardinals. In game 1 of the tournament against Sherwood Park in Ft.Saskatchewan Matt Kennett hit the teams first out of the park homerun of the season,A three run shot over the right field fence.

All in All A Very Very Good Weekend(June 2-3)

Even with a couple of tough losses to Camrose and a number of injuries the Reds showed a lot of heart,a lot of spectacular defense, hitting and pitching and pulled out two dramatic victories over a very tough Edmonton Cardinals team on a very hot weekend in Camrose.

Reds Win Makeup Game(May 30th)
A combination of great defense and great pitching as well as some clutch hitting led to a 5-0 win over Calgary.Eric Webb and Ben Bechtold held the Cubs to 2 hits.Mark Oness in the 4th hit a bases loaded double scoring 3
