Posted Aug 22/12 - Spurs Fall Short at Provincials

After a successfull regular season that saw both Spurs team qualify for the Provincials, the baseball gods decided to shut the door on both teams' Championship hopes as they  battled hard but ultimately came up short in their quest for the big prize.

Spurs Red
After securimg the last playoff spot in the Provincial tournament, the Spurs Red came in relax with every intention to play spoiler as the ultimate underdog. The Red Spurs played well allowing only 19 runs in 4 games but unfortunately their offense deserted them at the wrong time as they scored only 8 runs finishing with a 1 and 3 record.

While the team had bigger aspirations for the Provincials, the expansion squad can be proud of their season. In addition to making the Provincials, the team played 66 games winning 30 after a rough start to their season. They also captured the Yakima TSF Challenge Crown in their only US tournament  of the season. Moreover , the team kept improving as the season progressed which is the ultimate testament to their work ethic and can do attittude. Way to go boys!

Spurs Black
Coming in as the heavy favorites after finishing in 1st place for the regular season, the Spurs Black were facing some difficult odds as no team 1st place team had won the Bantam AAA Provincials in the in the last 5 years. The Black Spurs played well in the round robbin securing 1st place in their pool even after witnessing a devastating injury to their teamate Max Williams that would end his season.

With Max making an inspirational appearance on the bench  for their semi-final game, the Black squad was pumped to face their arch rival from Abbotsford. Fighting the jitters, the Spurs allowed 3 unearned run which would prove costly as they lost 3-2 to the Angels to end their season. A very disappointing ending for a team that won 59 times in 2012.

While the Black Spurs will not get a chance to advance to Westerns or National, they can be proud of their accomplishments as they played 74 solid games this year allowing an average of less than two runs per game in league play.  They also competed toe to toe with some great US teams in both the Kent Invitational, and at the Notre Dame World Series Qualifier. You can hold your head high boys!

Thank you to both teams for a great season and for proudly representing Cloverdale in 2012.

Posted Aug 21/12 - Bantam Fall Ball Unlikely For Spurs

After a very succesful Fall Ball season last year that saw 4 teams compete in numerous tournaments and the Cloverdale World Series, the Spurs are unlikely to field any teams this year as the city needs to redo the Bantam Diamond for the 2013 Season.  Unless players are allowed to use BMX's it's very unlikely that their will be Bantam Fall Ball in Cloverdale.
