Posted Aug 23/10 - Wildcats Bounced Out Of Class B Tourney
The Winsted Wildcats debut in the Class B Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Tourney didn't go as planned last night, as they lost 11-5 to the Burnsville Bobcats.

The Bobcats were recipients of 3 first inning runs, spotted to them by a couple of Wildcats errors (all with 2 outs). That pretty much was the storyline for the entire game. Burnsville scored almost all of their 11 runs with 2 outs, with half of them scoring as a result of costly errors. Defensively, both teams struggled, with each team notching 5 errors. The Wildcats simply made more costly errors.

Bright spots for the Wildcats....Joe "Joesus" Kley hit a massive solo home run...This ball may have landed in Franklin, MN. The quote from the dugout was: "Kley's majestic shot disappeared into the night sky" (quote compliments of Matt Klitzke/Dan Birkholz/Jeremy Schmidt). Marc Kohler and Cullen Schultz had key RBI singles that allowed the Wildcats to take the lead at 5-4, but that's where the Wildcats scoring ended.

The Burnsville Bobcats simply were the better hitting club last night. The Bobcats had a roster full of hitters. Their leadoff batter went 5 for 5 and their #9 hitter jacked a 3 run bomb in the 8th inning to seal the deal. Anytime the opposing team's #9 hitter is hitting bombs, you know you're in trouble. The Wildcats ran into a freight train and there wasn't much we could do about it. Hats off to the Burnsville Bobcats on their victory and continued good luck the rest of the way!

All in all, it was a great & successful season. A lot of people/teams didn't think the Wildcats would make much noise in Class B this year. No, the Wildcats came up short in their state tourney bid (exiting a lot earlier than expected), but winning the #1 seed coming out of section 8B and of course, actually making the Class B State Tourney in our 1st attempt is a pretty big accomplishment in itself. I fully expect this team to be back in the Class B Tourney next year and this time, advance further.

Last but not least....A BIG "THANK YOU" to the Wildcats fans. You guys, by far, are the best fans in the Crow River Valley League and the Northstar League! The team sincerely appreciates your support and can't wait to see you all next Spring.
