Posted Apr 4/10 - Preseason Notes

Just a couple house cleaning items to address a few of your questions and clarify uniforms.  Our first game is this Saturday at 9:30 against the Cubs.  We need all player to report to the batting cages on the first-base side of the North field no later than 8:45 to allow for batting practice, warm-ups and infield drills prior to the game.

Our jerseys will be here early this week, jerseys, hats and work schedules will be available to players after practice on Wednesday the 8th at 7:30pm, we will likely keep practice to an hour as it is a school night.  While this practice will be shorter than normal we really need one outdoor practice as a full team prior to our game on Saturday.  All work assignments are required as part of our responsibilities at Junior Deputy, any family unable to work their assigned duty must find a replacement.

We have ten players on the roster therefore all ten boys will be able to play 100% of the time in various positions.  If your player is unable to attend any game, please let me know as soon as possible as I plan to build my inning-by-inning field assignments for players so assure fair rotation of players in various positions based on various factors but most importantly, player safety.

·         OUTDOOR PRACTICE UNIFORM:  Red shirt or any red Cardinals shirt, Cardinals hat, baseball pants, socks, belt and cleats.  I have a few practice pants, size MD & LG, please let Cyndi know if you need a pair.

·         INDOOR PRACTICE UNIFORM: Red shirt or any Cardinals shirt, Cardinals hat, shorts/sweats/comfortable pants, and tennis shoes (NO CLEATS.)  Junior Deputy does not allow the use of cleats in the indoor facility as it damages the carpeting.

·         GAME UNIFORM: White baseball pants, red shirt or any red Cardinals shirt, Cardinals hat, red socks, red belt and cleats.  This is required for ALL games.  Any player not in uniform will not play.

All players wanting to play catcher position must wear a cup for all games and practices.  This is a Junior Deputy safety rule and will not be broken.  Many players have expressed interest in various positions, these will be accommodated as much as possible while keeping them safe and keeping the game tempo moving.

During practices and games the boys need their family to cheer for them and their team.  Mistakes are inevitable but are part of the baseball learning experience, let me work through them with the boys and leave you to be the good guys by cheering.  There is no taunting of the opposing team or umpires by players or spectators, the umpires are ALWAYS right even if they make a mistake.  A full copy of the Rec. League rules have been posted as a news item on the team site.

A few general Junior Deputy rules that I would like to address in advance to assure we are not singled out for non-compliance:

o   No pets, this includes dogs, cats or any other animal.

o   No tobacco products, this includes both cigarettes and chewing tobacco.

o   No alcohol of any kind.

Just a reminder, if you have not paid your $15.00 towards our new jersey’s please bring it Wednesday night.

As always, please call me with any questions or concerns.

Christopher Allen
