Posted May 5/10 - Longhorns blanked by Cyclones in final conference game of 2010 regular season
This has been a frustrating week for Longhorn Baseball.  We came in thinking of finishing in 4th place in the Three Rivers Conference, and getting the last at-bat in a game against the 5th seed.  Instead we will finish in 6th place, because we have the same number of conference wins as Sullivan North, three, but they took the season series against us, to finish in 5th place.  As the 6th seed, we will now play the #3 seed, Happy Valle Warriors on Friday night at Dobyns Bennett, in the district tournament opener.

On Wednesday afternoon we played one of our worst games of the season.  Sophomore, Harley Reece, made his first career Varsity start for Johnson County.  He pitched into the 4th innning, and threw the ball well for a young guy making his first start, especially against a conference opponent.  Reece was welcomed to Three Rivers Conference Baseball in a hurry, as Elizabethton Cyclone stud, Jake Davis hit towering home runs off of him in the top of the 1st, and the top of the 3rd.  The Longhorns just could not get anything going as we only recorded 5 hits on the day.  Shorstop, Cody Greer, continues to swing a hot stick, as he went 2-3.  Sawyer Ward, Sammy Hampton, and Mark Jennings all had base knocks for the home team.  We do not want to be too critical off our own team on our own website, but we want to be honest too.  We have struggled this week.  We have struggled fundamentally.  We have stuggled mentally.  We have some players playing great defense, but struggling at the plate.  We have others who are swinging the bat really well, but are stuggling to field the baseball.  As we look forward to senior night tomorrow, we know we have to get our minds right and play much better baseball this weekend, or even though the tournament is double elimination, we will be sent home in a hurry.  We have the ability to have a nice showing in the postseason, but again, we must player better baseball.  We host the Hampton Bulldogs tomorrow.  First pitch is scheduled for 4:00.  Sophomore, Andy Stout, will be making his first career Varsity start for Johnson County.
