Posted May 8/11 - Longhorns Live To Play Another Day In District Tournament
For the first time since the 2006 season the Johnson County Longhorns have won a District 1 AA Tournament game, as we defeated the Happy Valley Warriors by the score of 9-1 on Saturday night.  Sammy Hampton improved to 3-4 on the mound and earned his first career tourney win, as he went 4 and two thirds innings, giving up only 2 hits and 1 earned run.  The Longhorns received many good signs on offense.  Sawyer Ward busted out of a recent funk with two doubles and an RBI.  Ward also stole a bag.  Designated hitter, Harley Reece, also hit two doubles and he knocked in three runs for Johnson County.  Hampton also hit a two bagger for the Longhorns, to go along with a single.  Leadoff hitter, Andy Stout, first baseman, Austin Humphrey, shortstop, Judd Hammons, and yesterday's centerfielder, Jacob Henson, also had base hits for Johnson County.  Stout knocked in a run.  Ryan Mahala pitched 1 and one third innings of great relief of Hampton.  Johnson County will be in the visiting dugout again today in a rematch with the Sullivan North Raiders.  North lost a wild 14-13 baseball game to the Sullivan East Patriots on Saturday.  Today's loser is finished for the 2011 season and the winner advances to play the Elizabethton Cylcones, who lost a thrilling 4-2 baseball game on Saturday to the Unicoi County Blue Devils, on Monday evening.  Sawyer Ward will be taking the ball for Johnson County.  Sammy Hampton was pulled from the game early on Saturday night, so he is available in short relief.  Nothing compares to postseason baseball.  It is now win or go home!!!
