Posted Mar 23/11 - Longhorns Split With Sullivan North Raiders
Wins are precious in the Three Rivers Conference, so one can ever complain too much, but Tuesday's doubleheader split with Sullivan North did almost feel like we lost two games, because of our frustration about our play in the first game.  Johnson County made several mental mistakes throughout the first game that did not exactly show up in the boxscore and may not have been obvious to our fans, but those mistakes probably did keep us from winning the 7-6 loss to the Raiders.  Mark Jennings did what an ace pitcher is supposed to do, and that's keep us in the game, even when you do not have your best "stuff."  We had a chance with a rally in the top of the 7th, but it was not to be.  Sawyer Ward did hit his first home run of the 2011 season and Harley Reece stayed hot for the Longhorns.

Sullivan North was obviously saving a pitcher for their Friday game against the Unicoi County Blue Devils, so we took advantage of their lesser arms, by pounding their pitching staff for 16 runs on 16 hits in the second game.  Sawyer Ward, Austin Humphrey, and Harley Reece all had two hits for the visiting team.  Mark Jennings knocked in five runs on his three hits, including an opposite field, two run shot in the first inning.  Senior, Sammy Hampton, earned his first career win on Tuesday night, as he endured for five innings.  Hampton threw over 110 pitches and walked 6 Sullivan North batters in only five innings of work, but he was able to make the big pitch when he needed to.  Complete boxscores of these games are available on the schedule page on the left and our overall record, conference record, and home and away record is available on the left, under, "Won loss."  The JV Longhorns travel to Bristol, TN on Thursday afternoon, as they battle the TN High Vikings.  First pitch is scheduled for 4:30.  Left hander, Jacob Henson, will be taking the ball for the JV Horns.
