Nanaimo Wins Provincials

August 8, 2005

The Nanaimo Coal Miners captured the 2005 Provincial Senior Baseball Championship by beating the Burnaby Bulldogs 3-0 in the tournament final in Burnaby. The Coal Miners victory ended Burnaby's four year grip on the provincial title.

Hot like the weather, the Miners went through the championship undefeated, outscoring the opposition 35-10. Nanaimo's Ryan Price was the tournament's top batter and most valuable player while Burnaby's Tim Fehr was named the tournament's top pitcher.

With the victory, Nanaimo qualified for the National Finals in Kamloops, August 24-28. The 'Dogs, meanwhile, will represent B.C. at the WCBA Senior AA championship in Westlock, Alberta, August 11-14.

In recapping the provincial tournament, the event was very well organized, the quality of play solid and the officiating excellent. David Laing, Tim Fehr and the Bulldogs' organization deserve a standing ovation for their commitment to excellence.

Provincial Commissioner

Countdown To The 2005 Pacific Western Brewery Senior Provincial Championships Winds Down

July 21, 2005

With just over a week to go before the 2005 PWB Senior Provincial Championships start, the final entries are just about to be decided. With all but the two PMBL reps decided, the rest of the province will be looking towards Coquitlam, home of the 2005 PMBL Playoffs, for clarity. With Surrey, Coquitlam and UBC fighting for the last two spots, things are sure to heat up.

The City of Burnaby and the Parks and Rec department have begun to work their magic on the field and the surrounding area and things are really starting to take shape. The field is sure to be fast and the backdrop beautiful in what will be the best surface in the Province next weekend.

The ammenities are also starting to arrive with the best addition to the BOB being the manual scoreboard, which will ensure fans and players alike are up to date on the game situation.

The Beverage Garden tent and the picnic tables for the hill area are certain to make it a special place to be. We will also have a tremendous concession set up that will specialize in both Ball Park fare and asian cuisine.

We are looking forward to welcoming the BC Senior Baseball Association and all of it's teams to our park.

For further information please contact either David Laing or Tim Fehr.
