Mississippi Dream women’s professional development basketball team is committed to providing the necessary academic and social support to develop inner city youth holistically as they compete with the adversities faced in life, academia, and athletics. The program is aimed at promoting individual growth in all of the youth that are made contact with and expand the perspective of youth’s awareness of life’s possibilities as they strive towards their goals of high school graduation and college enrollment. Youth will be assisted in reaching these goals through community service, mentoring, leadership development, team building functions, youth and basketball camps, and health and wellness clinics. The program’s activities will be facilitated by members of Mississippi Dream, which will consist of women ages 20 years of age and older. The women will provide local family entertainment, as well as serving as role models and leaders for inner city youth. The women’s semi-pro team will also provide valuable work experience for selected youth through internship opportunities within the operations of the team and organization.
Mississippi Dream Hitting the Ground and Running
The Mississippi Dream have opened the inagural season with a record of 2-1. The season started off with a 7 point loss to defending Gulf South Regional Champions,Louisiana Bayou Angels. However, the Dream put together two impressive victories in their next two outings on the road at the Gulf Coast Tropics and a home victory over the Mississippi Storm. The team's next game is slated for June 20th at home against the Gulf Coast Tropics.
