Marissa Rizzi Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Rizzi batted .462 with a team-high six hits at the FAU “First Pitch” Classic

QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 11, 2019) – After batting .462 in St. John's opening weekend, Marissa Rizzi has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced by the conference on Monday.
 
The Manorville, N.Y., native recorded a team-high six hits in 13 at-bats at the FAU "First Pitch" Classic. In the Red Storm's season opener on Friday against NCAA powerhouse No. 6/7 Georgia, the Johnnies' first baseman registered a 2-for-2 performance and smashed her 11th-career home run.
 
The following day, Rizzi posted her second multi-hit game in as many days, tying her personal-bests with three base knocks in the Johnnies 6-3 win over 2018 MEAC Champion Bethune-Cookman.
 
On the weekend, the junior also added another RBI, three runs scored, and a stolen base to her stat line.
 
This marks the second time in the Rizzi's career that she has been recognized by the BIG EAST. Her first conference accolade came on April 2, 2018, when she impressed with an identical .462 batting average, by going 6-for-13 with a home run in games against Iona and BIG EAST foe Georgetown.
 
Rizzi and the Red Storm return to action trip this weekend in South Carolina at the Gamecock Invitational, opening the three-day invite against UNC Greensboro on Friday, Feb. 15 with first pitch slated for noon.
