The 2012-2013 Press-Register boys Sweet 16 basketball team

The Press-Register Sweet 16 is compiled from nominations from coaches as well as staff insights from the season.

Player of the Year: T.J. Lang, McGill-Toolen, 6-6, junior … Led McGill-Toolen to a 25-7 record and a berth in the South Regional final. Averaged 17.1 points and 4.9 rebounds a game and hit 53 of his 100 3-point attempts.

Coach of the Year: John Price, Faith Academy … Led the Rams back to the Final 48 in Birmingham for the second straight season despite losing Press-Register Co-Player of the Year Petey McClain as well as Kyle Cumlander.

FIRST TEAM

Phillip Rankin, Murphy, 6-7, senior … Honorable Mention All-State selection averaged 17.8 points and 10.4 rebounds for the Panthers this season.

Greg White, St. Paul’s, 5-11, junior … First-team Class 5A All-State selection averaged 22.6 points a game for the Saints.

Divine Myles, Blount, 5-7, junior … Averaged 15 points and 12 assists as the Leopards reached the Final 48 for the first time since 2001. He was a second-team Class 6A All-State selection.

Jamal Harris, Clarke County, 6-1, senior … Averaged 22 points, nine rebounds and four assists this season. He was a second team Class 4A All-State selection.

Dylan Brown, Faith Academy, 6-2, senior … Came out of nowhere to become Faith’s leader. The senior averaged 18.4 points and five rebounds a game.
