Countdown to Opening Day
(Feb 3/10)

The Lady Rangers' are on the right track going into their 2009-2010 season.  Making it back to the Region V North Conference Tournament for the first time in 13 years has left the returning freshmen with the drive and desires to make it back-to-back appearances.  With the 2009 student athletes recruited, we see a great deal of success for the up coming season!

"Coach Ron Butler started the Women's Softball program and served as its head coach for 11 years.  In 1987, he noticed that women's fast pitch softball was gaining in popularity and believed that this sport would soon find a home on many, many college campuses.  The arrival of Title IX and the many increased opportunities for women proved Butler correct.  Ranger College and Hill College, with a new president from Ranger, blazed new trails as they became the first Texas "JUCOs" to initiate Women's Softball programs.  Others soon followed.  Not only did Butler coach the team, but he also built the field that the Lady Rangers still call home today.  His teams posted gaudy records, and in 1988 and 1994 the Lady Rangers played in the National Championship games.  In 1994 his contemporaries named him National Coach of the Year."  With a career softball record of 305 wins -52 loses, Coach Butler passed on the baton to one of his All-American players Leigh Devers (Ebner). Butler was at the helm of Ranger College Athletics for 36 years and plays a major role in the Ranger College family still today as a member of our Board of Trustees.  "Mr. Ranger College," himself, still has his hand in the game of softball today by putting on the "Cowtown Classic" college tournament every February since 1994.
