Murphy Cross Country / Track & Field!!

Posted May 2/10 - State Champions!!

At the end of the 2010 State Track & Field Meet in Gulf Shores, Murphy High School is proud to announce and introduce our 6 Individual State Champions!

Winner of the Boys 110 meter Hurdles was Senior Brandon Norwood with a time of 14.07 which leads the state of Alabama and is a top 50 time NATIONALLY! We are so proud of Brandon and his accomplishments this season. Brandon is set to travel to Troy University next week to discuss scholarship offers. Thanks again to Brandon for bringing the 110 hurdle title back to Murphy High School.

Junior Joshua Sigler won the Boys Triple Jump with an outstanding, personal best and state-leading jump of 48 feet, 6 and 1/2 inches! Joshua also competed in the Long Jump and the Javelin. We are proud to have Joshua as a member of the Panther Pride and look forward to next season and more outstanding performances.

Freshman Tonia McKinley had a phenominal State Meet competing in the 200 meter dash and running 11.85 which was the fastest split on our State Champion 4x100 meter Relay! We are so excited for Tonia and proud of her accomplishments and look forward to several more seasons of success with Tonia.

Junior Talisha James also competed in the 200 meter dash and ran a leg on the State Champion 4x100 meter Relay. She had the third fastest split of 12.15 which allowed the girls to gain the lead for our strong fourth leg. She also ran a leg of our 4x400 meter relay that ran a season-best time of 4:06. Talisha is already taking on the responsibility of leading our team in the right direction and we look forward to next season with Talisha.

Alexandria Montgomery is a Senior with a huge amount of talent and a big heart to back it up. She ran the second fastest split as anchor on our 4x100 meter Relay of 11.99 and held on to the lead to secure our spot as Girls 4x1 State Champions. Alexandria placed 6th in the 100 meter dash with a personal best ever time of 12.19. Alexandria is a powerful, emotional and physical leader on our team and we will definitely miss her next season. She will be an asset at the college level and we look forward to hearing of her successes in the future.

The lead-off leg of both our 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays was Amiracle Watson. Amiracle also ran in the 200 meter dash placing 8th with a time of 25.66. Amiracle's split on the 4x400 meter relay was an impressive 59.1 which put our team in the lead and set us up for a season-best time of 4:06.6. Amiracle is in the process of accepting offers from Troy University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She will be an outstanding runner in college and has been an excellent leader and person while competing as a Panther. We will miss all of our seniors and wish them the best life can give as they enter the next phase of their lives.

Congratulations to all of our athletes that qualified for the State Meet and we look forward to next season and the excitement that will surely come with it. Thanks for a wonderful season and I'll see you soon. Coach Oliver
