THE BROWNSVILLE 49ERS STAYED ALIVE WITH AN EXCITING 4-2 WIN OVER THE KEWASKUM A'S ON SATURDAY IN KEWASKUM. THE 49ERS WERE VERY SHORT HANDED MISSING 3 STARTERS FORCING LONG TIME MANAGER TIM NORTON INTO RIGHT FIELD FOR HIS FIRST ROCK RIVER LEAGUE APPEARANCE IN MANY YEARS.
THE 49ERS GOT ON THE BOARD IN THE FIRST WITH A BOOMING HOMERUN TO CENTER BY MARIAN STUD JAMES GOODFELLOW. AFTER THE A'S TIED THE SCORE IN THE SECOND THE 49ERS PLATED THEIR SECOND RUN AS NORTON WALKED WITH 2 OUTS ADVANCED TO 2ND AND 3RD ON WILD PITCHES AND SCORED ON A LASER UP THE MIDDLE BY GOODFELLOW.
THE A'S CAME BACK WITH ANOTHER UNEARNED RUN IN THE THIRD MAKING THE SCORE 2-2. THE PITCHERS WITKOWSKI AND HOFFMAN STAYED SHARP THRU THE 6TH WITH GETTING AHEAD ON MOST BATTERS.
THEN IN THE 7TH FINALLY SHORTSTOP JEREMY BARTELT FOUND HIS WAY TO KEWASKUM AND PINCH HIT FOR NORTON. AFTER RADDANT LED OFF THE INNING WITH A SINGLE, BARTY MOVED HIM OVER WITH A BUNT. UP STEPPED J.J. RAFLIK WHO PROMPTLY HIT THE SECOND PITCH HE SAW FOR A TWO RUN HOMERUN TO RIGHT CENTER. " J.J. WAS REALLY ON IT TODAY. HE HIT THE BALL HARD ALL 4 TIMES UP", STATED NORTON.
THAT WAS ALL 49ER ACE TYLER WITKOWSKI NEEDED AS HE HELD THE A'S SCORELESS THE REST OF THE WAY. TYLER SCATTERED 8 HITS WHILE STRIKING OUT 8 ALLOWING NO EARNED RUNS.
"CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT TYLER AND THIS TEAM THIS YEAR. I WASN'T TOO THRILLED ABOUT PLAYING, BUT SOMEHOW WE GOT THRU IT AND MOVE ON." STATED NORTON
WITH THE WIN AND A MAYVILLE (49ERS) MALLARDS LOSS TO RUBICON ON SATURDAY THE 49ERS HEAD TO CLYMAN TO FACE THE 2 TIME DEFENDING CHAMPIONS IN ANOTHER ELIMINATION GAME FOR THE 49ERS. KEWASKUM WILL TRAVEL TO RUBICON AND FACE ELIMINATION IF THEY DON'T WIN.
GAME TIME IS SET FOR 1:30 IN CLYMAN SUNDAY.
49ers win Playoff opener 5-0.
The Brownsville 49ers opened their playoff run with a convincing 5-0 whitewashing of the Madison Senators in Utica, WI Saturday.
The 49ers got on the board early as they scored in the first with a 2 out RBI single from Shawn Wozniak which scored Bartelt all the way from first. The 49ers added two more in the third with a Bartelt hit by pitch and then a single by Goodfellow with Bartlet taking third and Goody taking second on the throw. A RbI groundout by Wozniak scored Bartelt. Then Ryan Hall hit an RBI single scoring Goody.
The 49ers were led by standout pitcher Tyler Witkowski who pitched a complete game shutout allowing only 5 hits with no walks. " Tyler was in complete control today, he never had 3 balls on any hitter. Another masterpiece by Mr. Witkowski. He was awesome, stated manager Tim Norton.
The 49ers will now face defending champion Clyman who is also 1-0 at Brownsville at 1:30p.m Sunday.
49ers lose 14 inning marathon versus Rubicon
Brownsville now 3rd seed in Tournament starting Saturday August 15th
The Brownsville 49ers failed in the bid to finish in second place on Saturday as they feel to the Rubicon RedSox 6-5 in 14 innings. With the loss and a Kewaskum win on Monday night the 49ers secured third place with a 13-5 record. "Not bad after starting 1-3. We gave 2 games away and weren't ready in May otherwise you would be looking at us as Northern division champs again," said manager Tim Norton"Still it was a great regular season with a whole new atmosphere with all the new players. But the season starts Saturday and it wont be an easy path."
The 49ers will travel to Utica (not sure where that is, somewhere south of Madison) to face the second place Madison Senators who finished with an impressive 14-2 record with both losses coming to defending champion Clyman. On Sunday the 49ers will host the Canners from Clyman in a rematch of last years finals participants. " This will not be easy as we have our work cut out for us. But I have extreme confidence in this bunch of guys, they don't seem to worry about who or where we play." stated Norton.
The tournament continues every weekend until it is completed. This weekend each of the 8 teams gets one home game and after the weekend it is determined how many teams don't have 2 losses. Then the teams are seeded overall, with the 49ers getting the overall 5th seed. The highest seed hosts the lower seed until a champion is crowned. Games and sites are also determined on who you played the previous day and how many teams are still left without 2 losses. Stay tuned for weekly updates to check on the tournament.
"It should be interesting, We are back to the playoff system that most do not like at least in the north. Maybe one of these years we will get back to the step ladder which seems to reward a regular season champ. But until then all you can do is go and play the team your suppose to and roll the dice" said Norton.

HUGE RALLY NETS 49ERS PLYMOUTH TITLE
THE BROWNSVILLE 49ERS DID SOMETHING THEY HAVEN'T HAD TO DO MUCH IF AT ALL THIS YEAR. THEY FELL BEHIND 8-1 AFTER 5 LACKLUSTER INNINGS VERSUS RIVAL KEWASKUM IN PLYMOUTH WEDNESDAY NIGHT. HOWEVER, THE 49ERS STRUCK A BIT OF LUCK AND THEIR OWN MAGIC IN THE 6TH AS THEY SCORED 8 RUNS AND HELD ON TO DEFEAT THE A'S 9-8. WITH THE WIN THE 49ERS CAPTURED THEIR 7TH TITLE IN THE 11 YEAR HISTORY OF THE TOURNAMENT.
"WE HAVE PLAYED HERE EVERY YEAR, BUT THIS TITLE WAS A BIT SWEETER WITH THE COMEBACK WE HAD TO MAKE. AGAIN NOTHING SEEMS TO FAZE THIS TEAM, " STATED MANAGER TIM NORTON.
THE 49ERS FELL BEHIND EARLY AS THEY SURRENDERED 2 RUNS IN THE FIRST AND 3 MORE IN THE SECOND. AS THE 6TH APPROACHED THE SCORE WAS AT 8-1 WITH A'S STARTER JAKE LATHERS CRUISING. THEN THE COMEBACK STARTED. A WOZNIAK DOUBLE , FOLLOWED BY A RBI SINGLE BY STOFFEL NETTED ONE RUN. AFTER A SINGLE AND WALK LOADED THE BASES JAKE WOJAHN HIT A GROUNDER TO SHORT. THE A'S SHORTSTOP THREW TO THIRD TO GET THE RUNNER RADDANT BUT THREW WILDLY SCORING DEBOER. BARTLETT FOLLOWED WITH A WALK AND THAT WAS IT FOR LATHERS AS HE WAS REPLACED BY ACE JIM ZIEGLER.
JJ RAFLIK THEN STEPPED TO THE PLATE WITH THE BASES LOADED AND JUST MISSED HITTING IT SQUARE, HOWEVER, THE BALL WAS MISPLAYED IN DEEP RIGHT FIELD AND SCORED RADDANT FOR A SINGLE. AFTER A WILD PITCH SCORING WOJAHN, JAMES GOODFELLOW FOLLOWED WITH A HUGE RBI DOUBLE TO RIGHT SCORING THE TYING RUNS. WOZNIAK FOLLOWED WITH A CONTROVERSIAL GROUNDOUT TO FIRST RULED A HIT BY BEATING THE THROW. THEN JOSH KLISMITH FOLLOWED WITH A HUGE RBI SINGLE TO RIGHT PUTTING THE 49ERS ON TOP.
TYLER DEBOER WAS STELLAR IN RELIEF AS HE TOSSED 4 SCORELESS INNINGS STRIKING OUT 6 WITH NO WALKS. "THAT IS THE BEST HE HAS PITCHED BY FAR. A PLUS FASTBALL WITH A TIGHT CURVEBALL HAD THE A'S OFF BALANCED THE LAST 4 INNINGS," STATED NORTON.
WITH THE WIN THE 49ERS IMPROVE TO 16-4 ON THE SEASON AFTER STARTING 1-3. "WINNING 15 OUT OF 16 IS QUITE UNTHINKABLE, BUT WE HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING YET. WE STILL HAVE ONE GOAL TO ACHIEVE," SAID NORTON.
THE 49ERS CLOSE OUT THE REGULAR SEASON IN RUBICON WITH A MAKESHIFT LINEUP DUE TO WEDDINGS. WITH A WIN AND A KEWASKUM LOSS THEY CAN MOVE INTO THE 2ND SPOT FOR THE PLAYOFFS STARTING NEXT SATRUDAY.
49ers Crush Giants; push for playoff seeding
The Brownsville 49ers continued their run into the playoffs with another convincing win over the Germantown Giants on Sunday 12-1. Leading the way were hitting stars Jeremy Bartlet who was 4 for 6 with 4 rbi's and catcher Josh Klismith who was 2 for 2 with 3 walks. The pitching was led by ace Tyler Witkowski who again pitched 6 scoreless innings while striking out 7 with only 4 hits.
"The day was very non-exciting, no hype, the umps were crabby, and we didn't have much life also, even though we scored 12 runs," stated manager Tim Norton. We need to step it up a notch or 2 to play with Rubicon Saturday and into the playoffs the following weekend."
With the win the 49ers can do no worse than finish 3rd in the division. Mayville has clinched the 4th and final playoff spot and cannot move up due to tiebreakers. With a win Saturday at Rubicon (game time 1:30 with pig roast to follow) and a Kewaskum loss on either Friday or Sunday the 49ers would move up to the 2nd seed.
"The second seed would be much better for us, but at this point all we can do is worry about Rubicon. The rest is out of our control."
The 49ers take to the road Wednesday to finally complete the championship game of the Plymouth tournament. They will face a familar foe as Kewaskum awaits. Game time is 7:30p.m. for a full nine inning game.
Next weekend the 49ers will start the double elimination tournament versus the southern division of the Rock River league. If everything stays the same the 49ers will be in Utica Saturday versus the Madison Senators and at home Sunday versus 2-time defending champion Clyman. Don't miss all the great action, come out and see if the 49ers can continue their surge for a title!!

49ers Clinch 9th straight playoff berth
Brownsville lucks out and beats Hartford 5-4 Friday night
The Browsnville 49ers had lady luck on their side Friday night as they escaped with a 5-4 ninth inning win over the visiting Hartford Hawks. The 49ers started out great plating 3 runs in the first inning with another run scoring RBI double from catcher Josh Klismith. Hartford also committed a huge error which kept the inning going and allowed the 49ers another run.
Things were cruising along until the 3rd when Brownsville starter Tyler Deboer ran into a little bit of bad luck himself and also some poor defense by his fielders. Hartford where aided by 3 hits, one walk, and one error and scored 2 runs to get back in the game.
Hartford starter Tom Kluck settled down and really had the 49ers off balance from the 2nd until the 8th. "We have never really had trouble hitting him before, but this night his knuckler was on, and we were a very impatient hitting team, " stated manager Tim Norton.
The Hawks continued to score. A single run in the fifth sent DeBoer to the bench with a tie game. Making their 49er debut was Germantown senior Tyler Wester. He pitched the 6th and 7th inning and did a great job allowing a run that shouldn't have scored. Struck out 4 and walked 2. " I was very impressed with Wester. Another quality arm added to our team. Hopefully he will be someone we will have for years to come. He throws in the mid 80's and with the college he is going to should only get better. There were many other teams who wanted him, but I am glad he signed with us," stated Norton.
With the 8th inning approaching, the 49er faithful felt an upset in the making. After the first 2 went down with flyballs to left up came Dan Wilson. Wilson hit an easy flyball to right that the Hartford rightfielder dropped. Up next came Klismith who promptly laced another double to the left field corner. Because the ball was hit so hard Wilson had to hold at third. That brought up veteran Josh Stoffel who laced a liner back to Kluck that hit off his body and went to the third base side of the mound. Kluck couldn't find it in time and Wilson scored the tying run. Wester struck out to end the inning.
Nick Raddant came on to pitch the 8th and 9th. Ran into a little trouble in the ninth as the 49ers had 2 errors, but bowed his neck and got a strikeout and fly ball to center to end the threat. "Nick pitched oustanding again, he seems to really rise to the occasion when he needs to, stated Norton.
The 49ers did not want extra innings and got help from the Hawks as leadoff man Jake Wojahn led off the ninth with a ground ball to short that was booted for an error. Raddant then bunted him over to 2nd. Jeremy Bartlet then laced a single to center, however, it was hit too hard and Wojahn had to be held at third. Up stepped centerfielder J.J. Raflik who promptly hit a short fly ball to left. " As soon as it was hit, I knew we were sending Jake. I wanted the game over. I didn't want to play extra innings this night. We took a chance and got a little lucky," said Norton. The throw was on line but for some reason the third- baseman cut the throw and threw it home. Just enough time for Wojahn to slide head first ahead of the throw.
With the win the 49ers have clinched a spot in the playoffs for the 9th consecutive year, the longest running streak in the Rock River. At this point 3 of the 4 teams in the north are in: Rubicon, Kewaskum and Brownsville. With one more win Mayville will punch their ticket to the tournament. Oakfield needs to win out and have Mayville lose one of their 2 remaining games to force a playoff game to get to the playoffs.
"At this point I am just happy we are in the playoffs after our slow start. With a 1-3 start and 5 new starters we weren't sure playoffs would be in our future. It's a testament to our great core of college players that we picked up. It always takes these guys longer to adjust to the wood bats, but were there now, stated Norton.
Next week the 49ers travel to Germantown to face the Giants. Then on Wednesday August 5th they will face Kewaskum for the third time in the Plymouth tourney finals. Rubicon awaits the 49ers for the season ending regular season game on Saturday August 8th. If the 49ers win their final 2 regular season games and Kewaskum loses one of their remaining 3 games, Brownsville will move into the 2nd slot for the playoffs.
