The Yankees put up 8 runs in the first inning behind Jalen Kennedy and Deric Graham singles, David Tolbert and Hunter Stratton doubles and a three run homer off the bat of B. J. Murray. Hunter Stratton took the big lead went to work on the Piney Bluff Knights hitters. Stratton struck out eight and walked three of the 12 batters he faced in three innings of no hit baseball. Shawn Haas completed the combined “no hitter” by retiring all three batters he faced in the fourth and final inning.

YANKEES DROP SEASON OPENER IN EXTRA INNING THRILLER

B.J. Murray started strong Tuesday night striking out six of the first 14 Red Sox hitters on the way to a 3-0 lead.  Trouble set in to start the fourth inning as the Red Sox put together four singles and a walk before Shawn Haas came to the mound. Haas collected two K’s to stop the rally but not until the Red Sox had plated five runs. “This was a classic game. Both teams made big plays all night and the kids on both sides were having a blast.”

Trey Harr relieved Cody Cuddy with one out in the Fifth and worked 3 and 2/3 innings striking out five Red Sox hitters. “Harr did a great job in relief, he kept giving us a chance to win. We have got to do a better job putting the ball in play when the game is on the line.”

Offensively David Tolbert’s three hits (including an eighth inning RBI double) and two singles off the bat of Keaton Day led the Yankees. Cody Cuddy and Deric Graham also added RBI singles for the Yankees. Alex Leonard reached base on two walks and scored after being hit by a pitch in the fifth inning.

The Yankees (0-1) will face the Reds (1-0) Tuesday night at 7:30. “If  the next one is anything like the last one, you don’t want to miss it.”
