Posted Feb 5/10 - Auburn Plays Tough, But Loses To The Buffaloes
     Thursday night saw the Eagles traveling to Floyd County to face the #5 team in the state of Virginia.  Auburn battled hard the entire game, keeping the game in doubt until the final minutes.  Floyd was able to hold on for a 54-41 win
     Auburn was able to  break Floyd's full court pressure the first half and attack the basket.  Floyd County struggled from the field as the Eagles contested all of their shots.  Floyd was able to hit the offensive boards and get second opportunities which led to a 25-21 halftime lead.
     Floyd's pressure hurt the Eagles right out of halftime and increased their lead to 11.  Auburn was able to regain their composure and play with them through the third quarter and the first half of the fourth quarter.
     The momentum would swing into Auburn's favor at the 5:15 mark.  Behind  Holly Saul's 6 fourth quarter points the Eagles were able to cut the lead down to 5 with 2:30 to play in the game.  Auburn would then have some costly turnovers and missed shots while Floyd went to a stall game and hit their free throws to win the game 54-41.
     Holly Saul scored 15 points and added 11 rebounds.  Kristen Snyder would also break the double digit mark with 10 points.
     Auburn's next game is next Wednesday at Glenvar.

Posted Feb 4/10 - Radford Defeats Auburn
     The snow had melted enough to allow the Eagles to once again play basketball on Wednesday night.  The lack of practice showed as the the Eagles were not able to find their range for most of the night and lost to Radford 51-24.
     The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead by attacking the basket and dominating the offensive boards.  The Eagles were able to close out the first quarter on a little run to come withing 5.  That was the closest they would come as Radford outscored the Eagles by 8 in the second quarter and 14 in the second half.

Posted Jan 28/10 - Auburn Rallies From 15 To Defeat Glenvar by 4
     The Glenvar Highlanders came to Riner looking to pick up their 13th win of the season.  At halftime, leading by 13, it looked as if they would accomplish that goal.  Auburn had other plans as they mounted a furious comeback to push their record to 11-6 overall, 4-2 in the District.
     Thursday was Senior night at Auburn.  Early it lived up to its billing as Senior Samantha Smith had 9 quick points to open the game ( 2 three pointers and 1 free throw ).  The Eagles would leveled off quickly after that as they went scoreless for half of the fist quarter and the entire second quarter.  Glenvar was only able to take a 13 point lead into the half.
     Glenvar started the third quarter with a bucket to go up by fifteen.  That was when the Eagles can soaring back.  Auburn went on a 20-5 run to throughout the third behind more agrressive defense.
     The fourth quarter saw both teams go back and forth which saw inspired performances from Briana Keen who scored 14 second half points and Holly Saul with 9 second half points.  With Auburn up by only one point with less than a minute to go, Jordan Watson drained 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch to seal the win for Auburn.
     The next game for the Eagles will be next Tuesday at Radford High School.

Posted Jan 27/10 - Eagles Win by 29 Over Mustangs
     Auburn traveled to Eastern Montgomery High School Tuesday night to play the Mustangs and stop a three game losing streak.  The Eagles were were able to change their fortunes and win 50-31 to set their  overall record at 10-6 and 3-2 in district play.
     The Eagles came out blazing in the first quarter, finishing with a 21-0 lead.  The Mustangs would only cut into the Eagles lead by two points going into halftime.  Auburn would force Eastern Montgomery into 19 first half turnovers.  Holly Saul 13 of her game high 20 points in the first half to set the pace for Auburn.
     The third quarter once again belonged to the Eagles as they outscored the Mustangs 16-2, holding them to only two made free throws.  Auburn would push the lead to 34 before finishing with a 60-31 win.
     Holly Saul also added 8 rebounds with her 20 points.  Jordan Watson had 8 points and 8 rebounds and Kayla Gibbs finished with 8 points.  Everyone for Auburn scored in the game.
     Auburn's next game is Thursday night (January 28th) at home against Glenvar.  This will be our final regular season home game of the year.  It will be our Senior night, as we recognize our three Senior players for all that they have contributed to the program over the years.
