The Wilmont Cardinals ended the Adrian A’s season with a 9-0 loss in the Gopher League Playoffs. The A’s could only muster four hits in the contest, while the visiting Cardinals pounded out 15 hits. Kevin Nowotny was tagged with his only loss of the season. Nowotny went 1 2/3 innings giving up four runs on six hits, while walking one, and striking out one. Greg Quist relieved Nowotny and went 4 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on five hits, walking four, and striking out two. Jordon Kontz pitched the final 3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Matt Gades doubled to lead the offensive attack, while Cody Kontz, Levi Bullerman, and Jordon Kontz each singled. The A’s finish the season with a 20-12 record. The 20 wins set the four-year record for wins in a season. The A’s would like to thank everyone for their support in the 2009 season. The Boys of Summer will be back again for the 2010 season!
A’s Eliminate Express
The Adrian A’s beat Tracy 4-1 to eliminate the Express from the Gopher League Playoffs. Kevin Nowotny was dazzling on the mound once againg for the A’s; the right-hander pitched a complete game, allowing one unearned run on eight hits, walking two, and striking out two. The A’s capped off a four run 6th inning with a 2-run double by Jason Stubbe and that is all the A’s would need to get the victory. Brian Harms went 2-4 on the night while Levi Bullerman and Joe Kruger each singled for the A’s. Cody Kontz walked four times, while Glen Kruger drove in a run when he was hit by a pitch.
