It was a great day for an early season game, Sunday afternoon in Platte. The Tomatoes had a tough opponent to start their season. The Parston Mudcats had our number over the last few seasons & they had played at least 1 previous game, putting them ahead of us in preparation, at least on paper.
Austin Ringling started on the mound for Platte & left the game after 5 innings with a 3-1 lead. In the Sunshine league that is never a safe lead not to mention against a team the caliber of the Mudcats. Ross Van Zee came out for the 6th inning. Ross had an arm injury a couple of years ago & didn't play last year. He looked pretty good giving up 4 runs over a couple of innings on a couple of hits & errors.
So after 7 innings it looked like the out come was going to be about the way it had gone over the last few years. Casey Hegge came in in the 8th. He was able to hold the Mudcats while Platte came back to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th. He gave up a run in the 10th & 11th & got out of bases loaded jams in each inning. Platte got one in the 10th & 2 in the 11th for the win.
The Platte crowd got their money's worth. They got to see a well played game with the good guys coming out on top!
