Posted Aug 7/10 - Wildcats Down Hutch Huskies, 6-5 on Sat, 8/7/2010

The Winsted Wildcats traveled to Maple Lake on Saturday afternoon to take on the Hutch Huskies in Section 8B Tournament play.  Despite spotting the Hutch Huskies a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning, the Wildcats battled back and won, 6-5.

Starting on the mound for the Wildcats was Josh "Old #7" Anthony. Anthony struggled a bit in the 1st inning in regards to accuracy (must have been too cold out), but even after his struggles, kept the Wildcats in the game. Anthony also helped his own cause by notching 4 hits.

Tony Kley relieved Anthony in the 5th inning and essentially sealed the Wildcats victory as soon as he took he mound. TK was late to the game, compliments of SCSU, but that didn't seem to affect his pitching (maybe his hitting ;) ! TK was virtually unhittable, shutting down the Huskies the rest of the way. TK's quote after the game: "It's hard being me!"

Marc "Otis" Kohler had a couple of "oppo field" hits along with an "entertaining" catch in left field. Otis credited his "oppo" field hitting success to a late evening at "Kegs" the night before; his swing was simply too slow!

Joe "Baby Joesus" Kley also ripped a couple of hits as well. The one ball was ripped so hard down the leftfield line that somewhere, a midget is still crying. Don't ask for an explanation for the "midget" comment. Just try to understand.

Matt "Smalls" Klitzke (the cagy, aging, bench grabbing vet) made his 1st appearance at a Wildcats game in almost 6 weeks. The Wildcats organization had the Carver County Water Patrol pull him off of Lake Waconia and escort him to the game. Klitzke provided nothing of any value to the game (as usual), but he did provide the team with something; photo taking and nonsense dugout banter.  And oh yeah, another rambling "game recap!"

And now....The highly anticipated, award winning, "Game Awards"....

The "Defensive Play of the Game" goes to: Justin Jacques & Marc Kohler. Because the Wildcats organization (ok, mainly me) believes that there's no such thing in sharing awards, the winner of this award will be determined by a friendly match of "Bloody Knuckles" immediately after Wednesday night's game. "Swanny" will be collecting the "Pay-Per-View" fees. Las Vegas Oddsmakers: 3:1 Jacques over Kohler. Back to the award....

  • Jacques made a Roger Dorn-esque play at third base early in the game that ended a Huskies threat. The Wildcats bench will all say that Jacques was looking at the train that was passing by when he "fielded" that liner, but Jacques states "he saw it all he way." Either way, he made the friggin'play and a great play it was!
  • Kohler made a catch in the early innings in deep left field. From the dugout, it appeared to be an easy fly ball. Kohler, who watches Delmon Young's DVD series, "How To Play An Exciting Left Field" during the offseason, decided to use some of Delmon's angles to get to the ball. Otis changed directions a few times, but managed to make the catch on the warning track. If Otis was fitted with a GPS tracking device on that catch, the GPS unit would have said "Where in the hell are you going?"

The "Line of the Game" Award, hands down, goes to Wildcats right fielder Greggy Kohler. Greggy, immediately after the Wildcats hard-fought victory proclaimed: "I'm going to get black-out drunk tonight." ***NOTE*** I saw Greggy at the Winsted street dance later that evening and he was nowhere near that state. In fact, he was drinking only "Shirley Temples" with extra grenadine. Weird...
