Posted Feb 19/14 - Raiders Spoil Riels Streak

Riels 2 vs Raiders 4  Mon. Feb.10, 2014

FIRST PERIOD

Raiders opened the scoring at 10:06 of the first period when Tanner Magalas blasted the puck past Riels net minder Kyle Vandemosselaer with assist going to Matt Zolinski.  Raiders kept coming a minute later at 11:09 when Cole Thalman fired a shot that beat Vandemosselaer to make it 2-0 Raiders with assists going to Ryan Magalas and Nik Lynam.  Raiders goalie Mat McIntosh had a great first period making some key saves especially on the Riels power play.  Raiders lead was 2-0 after the first.  Raiders out shot Riels 13-10.

SECOND PERIOD

It was a penalty filled second period with 6 minors to the Riels and 5 minors to the Raiders.  There was not too much flow in the game.  Riels opened the scoring early in the second when Brian Michiels gained the zone, turned on the hash mark and fed a beautiful pass across to Sean Christensen who made it look easy beating McIntosh to make it 2-1 Raiders with assists going to Brian Michiels and Glen Young.  Then the parade started to the penalty box.  That hurt the Riels, but the road warriors Raiders took full advantage of that type of game.  Then at 10:22 Ryan Seekings scored his 16th of the season from Thalman and Hansey.  That made it 3-1 Raiders.  At 17:30, Eli Batt scored to make it 4-1 with help from Hansey and Fuerst.  Full credit goes out to the Raiders who out shot the Riels 11-8 after two periods.

THIRD PERIOD

Only one goal was scored at 12:51 when Riels forward, Brian Dies scored a beautiful goal, his 28th of the season to cut the lead to 4-2 with assists going to Izvekov and Christensen.  That’s how the game would end 4-2 Raiders winning the 5 game series 3 games to 2.  Riels only lost 5 all year up to now.  Raiders out shot Riels 12-9 in the third and 36-27 overall.  All games all year between these two teams were very entertaining.  There was alot of nice goals and great goal tending.  Kyle Vandemosselaer played strong in the pipes for the Riels stopping 32 shots.
