Posted May 28/13 - Superman Joins the X-Men to Stymie Spaceballs

Well, there will always be days like that. Doesn't make it feel any better right now, but the Spaceballs just need to regroup and come back stronger in the next game. Unfortunately, the offense that was missing in the tourney showed up in full schwartz last night, but the defense faltered. Not a complete gong show, but enough key errors from all over the field that cost the team at least one win. The last few days have shown that the team is capable of being a high-scoring machine with a stingy defense against quality opponents (they have yet to play any pushovers), it's just a matter of combining the two at the same time. This reporter is fully confident it'll happen and the team will go on a roll.

Princess Vespa was strong coming off the DL, starting rumours that she may have been receiving bionic implants instead of recovering from a foot injury. Kid Catch put in another great game at the lead-off spot, creating opportunities for runs every time he comes to bat. Although they were the two strongest bats last night, the entire lineup contributed offensively. Something that was missing on the weekend. As always, Lone Bird impressed everyone with how rugged and sexy he looked.

What was even more disappointing than the Spaceballs defense last night was the "performance" of the ump. The first game went by smoothly, but by the second game it was obvious the ump wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible and there were several obviously bad calls that both teams noticed. Calling an out before the ball even reaches the glove shows no respect for the game or the people paying to play. He even complained to another ump that the game was taking too long. Yep, so long that there were several other games still in progress on other diamonds by the time Spaceballs and X-Men were finished ten complete innings of ball. The calls likely didn't affect the ultimate outcome of the second game, but they did show an amazing lack of respect for the players.

Oh well, the team's gotta move on. Next week will be better.
