Posted May 9/10 - Longhorns end season with loss to Cyclones in district tournament
The Longhorns went to J. Fred Johnson Stadium on Sunday afternoon having to win to avoid elimination.  Unfortunately, we were not able to do that.  Johnson County left the bases loaded in three seperate innings (1st, 6th, 7th).  It's hard to win any baseball games, on any level, when you can't get the big hit.  Cody Greer started on the mound for the Longhorns, but did not have his best stuff.  Greer only went 2 innings, giving up 6 hits and 6 runs, with 1 walk and no strikeouts.  He did help himself at the plate, as he went 3-4, with a run scored.  Zack Hayworth came on in relief of Greer, and kept us in the game, and gave us a chance to win.  Hayworth went a season high 4 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs.  He struck out two Cyclone batters and walked one.  In addition to Greer's 3 hits for Johnson County, Mark Jennings, Sawyer Ward, and Eric Cullop all had 2 hits apiece.  Jennings hit an RBI double in the bottom of the 3rd.  David Luceford had another nice game behind the dish for the Longhorns.  He had a nice defensive, district tournament.  Much like on Friday night, we had chances to win, but did not take advantage.  The kids did give good effort, but a win was not meant to be.  The Loghorns finished the 2010 season with a 9-16 overall record and a 3-14 record in the Three Rivers Conference.
