Posted May 7/10 - Longhorns drop distsrict tournament opener to Warriors
Sammy Hampton and Happy Valley right hander, Ethan Fleenor, were locked in a 0-0 pitchers duel going into the 6th inning, but the Warriors scored 6 runs in the 6th, and Fleenor held up his end of the deal, as Happy Valley blanked the Longhorns 6-0. The score does not reflect just how good of a baseball game this was. The Longhorns came to play. We turned a 5-4-3 double play, and properly executed a pickle (rundown) late in the game. David Lunceford turned in his best defensive performance behind the plate of the season. He threw out a Warrior runner attempting to steal second base in the 1st inning, and did not have any passed balls. Sawyer Ward, Zack Hayworth, Tyler Fenner, Mark Jennings, and Danny Herman all had base hits for Johson County. Sammy Hampton's final line was 5 1/3 innings pitched, 7 hits, 4 runs, 0 K, and 7 BB. The Longhorns play the loser of Saturday's Unicoi County Blue Devil/Elizabethton Cyclone game. First pitch of that game is scheduled for 3:30 at J. Fred Johnson Stadium. Happy Valley will play the Sullivan East Patriots on Saturday at 1:00. Johnson County will play at 4:00 on Sunday afternoon.
