Posted Mar 23/12 - JCHS Get Well Earned Win At Holston

The JCHS Longhorns earned consecutive wins for the first time this season. All of our Varsity wins this seasonhave been of the come from behind variety.

*Andy Stout recorded his first win of the 2012 season on Thursday at the Holston Cavaliers. Stout surrendered 4 runs (3 earned) in the bottom of the 1st, but settled down and pitched 5 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball after that in his 121 pitch effort. He also collected two hits on the day and reached base a total of three times.

*Harley Race, who started the game as the designated hitter, came in to record the final two outs to collect his first career save.

*We are hoping Thursday proves to be the day that got Judd Hammons going, as the shortstop reached base three times, including a two run double in the left-center gap in the top of the 5th that put us up by the score of 5-4.

*Ryan Mahala continued his stretch of good baseball. The junior RHP/3B/OF reached based twice, with a 1B and a BB, and scored 2 runs for the visiting Longhorns. Mahala also stole a base.

*Dusty Stout, who caught and played the OF, before returning to the catcher position, had a hit on the day an scored two runs. Stout was also hit by a pitch (HBP).

*Jacob Henson, back in the three hole in the batting order, hit a double in the right-center gap in the top of the 4th, which collected him an RBI.

The JCHS Longhorns travel to the Sullivan Central Cougars today for our fourth Varsity baseball game this week. We have struggled at Central in recent years (run ruled in 5 innings in 2011), but look to change that today. Junior, Andy Woods, will be making his first start of the 2012 season and first career Varsity start. Woods went 5-1 as a starter on the 2011 JV Longhorn club. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
