Posted Dec 10/10 - Throwing Program & Conditioning Going Strong!

Longhorn Pitchers were kept on a consistent throwing program with the appropriate rest between bullpen sessions throughout the 2010 season, but the intensity and focus has been stepped up in preparations for the 2011 season.  Coach Nicholas Perkins said, "I feel like we have the potential to have a strong offensive baseball club and I feel like we will play solid defense, but pitching and catching are the heart of a ball club.  We must improve on the mound and behind the plate."  Pitchers began throwing bullpens, with a focus on mechanics, the week of Thanksgiving.  Position players (non-pitchers) are also throwing and long tossing (throwing from distance).  The success our Varsity baseball team has on the mound will depend largely on Mark Jennings and Sammy Hampton, but we must find someone to fill that #3 slot.  We must add some depth to our pitching staff.  We really hope our intense pitching program will help us do that," Perkins said.  Ryan Mahala and Jacob Henson are expected to anchor the JV pitching staff, with a lot of young arms available after them.
