NUTANA, SK – On Wednesday, in one of their better games of the year, the Saskatoon Cardinals out hit the Jays on way to an 8-1 win. The Red Birds, who never trailed in the game, opened the game scoring 2 runs in the first on a sacrifice fly by Shawn Lewis and an RBI single by Ethan Meyer . The Cardinals then opened the game up by adding three runs in both the second and the fourth innings. In the second, the Cardinals scored on a steal of home, plating Bryce Libke. In the fourth, the Cards scored on a passed ball, an RBI single by Ryan Olchoway and an RBI single by Lewis. Olchoway continued to swing a hot bat and going a perfect 3-3 at the plate.
The Jays could not find a way to score runs on Nolan Machibroda and Olchoway. Machibroda racked up five strikeouts giving up an unearned run on five hits and two walks over 5-1/3 innings while Olchoway came in to mop things up pitching 1-2/3 shutout innings with 3 strikeouts.
The Cardinals next action is a double header on Sunday in Muenster starting at 1:00 pm.
