Posted Jul 3/13 - LATE INNING COLLAPSE SINKS CARDS

The Saskatoon Cardinals led for four innings and stayed close for seven, but in the end they could not contain the Braves offence, falling 16-11.  Shawn Lewis started on the mound surrendering 3 runs in the first.  The Cards got those runs back on a strange play which started when Reid Britnell, thinking he was out, started walking towards the dugout after a single by Lewis. Nolan Machibroda scored from third on the play, while Britnell ran into third, sliding in before the tag.  Graham Forrester continued to swing a hot bat knocking in Britnell and Lewis before scoring on a wild pitch to take a 4-3 lead after the 1st.  Lewis then pitched a shutout inning in the second and the Cards added one more to go up 5-3 at the end of 2.  Forrester pitched the 3rd and 4th innings surrendering 1 run leaving the game with a two run cushion.  Ryan Crilly pitched the 5th inning, but could not contain the Braves who tied the game at 10.  In the 6th, Crilly struggled to find the strike zone loading the bases before being replaced by Brydon Gore.  With no warm-up, no outs and not much fielding, the Braves built up a 6 run lead by the end of the 7th.  The Cards scored one more in their half of the 7th, but it was too little, too late.  Cardinal hitters were led by Graham Forrester who smashed two stand up doubles.  Other hitters for the Cardinals were Justin Walter, Reid Britnell, Bryden Gore, Nolan Machibroda, Shawn Lewis and Tyler Stadnichuk.

The Cardinals next game is Thursday at 6:30 pm when the take on the Blue Jays.  The Cardinals, who will be missing Nolan Machibroda,  hope to have Garrett Krawchuk and Ethan Meyer back in the lineup for Thursdays tilt.
